Hi,
I recently purchased a silver ring probably Hopi style (maybe Navajo?). It has a hallmark with two symbols (feathers I guess) and the initials LR. At first glance it looks like LP but the second letter might just be a bit worn out. The ring is quite large (size 11,5) and the band is nearly 1/2 inch wide (12mm). I googled quite a bit could not find a match.
Any ideas about the artist?
I couldn’t find the hallmark. However, this style is Navajo. Hopi will look similar, but it is done overlaying silver and this piece has been stamped. Letter hallmarks can be very difficult to identify, especially when the work doesn’t have a unique style. That L could be a TL, that will make it easier to find :).
Thanks a lot for the research and your reply, Jason!
I already wondered about the serifs, I think they are fairly uncommon in hallmarks, aren’t they? It never came to my mind that this might be a ligature. That’s a really good hint, I will search in that direction.
I was hoping that the symbols would be somewhat unique and make an identification more simple.
The ring has some dents and edges but I have no clue how old it actually is.
Any hints and ideas are highly appreciated…
I think the maker is going to remain a mystery, would call it 1980s.
