Perusing the interwebs and came across this (I think) fantastic cuff by Virgil Reeder. Although I’m curious about that since the hallmark on the cuff doesn’t match any of his hallmarks on art-amerindien.com
Anyway, I’m curious about how the horse heads are made. Are they tooled into the cuff, or are they made separately and then attached? Same question about the horses on the Daniel Martinez Concho belt I shared the other day. Thanks!
Thanks, @Steve! I thought this cuff is quite different from all of the other pieces I found that are attributed to VR. However, when I searched the forum, @tepowell made a post quite some time ago with a pendant acquired directly from VR, and it is quite fancy, too. I’m curious what the hallmark on the pendant looks like.
@Ziacat yes, I REALLY like the flower. I kind of see a dogwood blossom, but I agree about the windmill.
I’ve attached a picture of the hallmark on my piece. Virgil Reeder has been incorporating horses into his pieces for a long time, I believe- I grabbed some examples from FB posts.
And I’m not curious IF he used horses, I want to know HOW the horses are done? it makes sense that it’s a different piece of metal on the concho belt, but I can’t tell here.
Thank you @tepowell for sharing your hallmark and VR’s other work.
just FYI, I looked at several VR pieces on the Live Auctioneers site-saw a VR Sterling mark, and a VR IHMSS mark…nothing with arrows (but not comprehensive of course!)
@tepowell thank you for that bit of info. I think the cuff is really cool, but I’m not looking to purchase, so this is all just academic. Thank you for sharing the hallmark on your piece and the information you gleaned.
