How is it made?

I hope the pic is good enough to see the detail in this chain -wondering if it’s handmade? Adding a perspective view of necklace, 32".

I really wonder how chains are made, especially because they’re so small? Machine and handmade? What kind of tool holds the link as another is joined? It boggles my mind lol.

Looks handmade. The links are shaped, hammered mostly flat, making them slightly longer and wider, joined together and then carefully soldered.

A mandrel and pliers are used for shaping, The hammering is done with a hammer and flat stamp, pliers are used to join the links, and then flux is applied and the links are soldered with tiny premeasured squares or uniform melted drops of solder to close up the joints.

Thank you for your reply @mmrogers and @Steve. Amazing!

I’m off to try and figure a timeline for the chain. There’s no markings -wish me luck lol.
