Hubei?

I recently purchased this at an estate sale. I have been told by two people it is Hubei. One said it was from 1980-90’s.

I loved it and thought it was seriously undervalued, so I purchased it.

The veining looks a little like some Kingman I have seen. Can anyone weigh in?

@Scarlet65 Hi & Welcome. It’s always fun to find something that we love at an estate sale! My opinion: It’s a nice, modern turquoise necklace. I believe that’s Chinese turquoise. Large, flat-shaped turquoise stones like these are a giveaway, imo. I hope you enjoy wearing your necklace.

That sounds like what I have been told. One guy said 1980-90 period which would make sense based on where I got it. Tongue sticks, so I do not believe it is stabilized. It is also very heavy. I appreciate the feedback.

All I can offer up is a pic of my cuff which Garlands said the stone was from Cloud Mountain, Hubei Province, China. It’s a bit more blue, not saying yours isn’t either. Also heard or read that that turquoise is harder which makes sense as far as heavy goes. Thank goodness for undervalued items.

Thats a beautiful cuff.

Good morning. Nice cuff @SilverWolf! It certainly is typical of Hubai from what I’ve seen. I have another example identified as Hubai when purchases (also at Garlands:grinning_face:). This cuff is by Lee Begay (brother of Darryl Dean Begay). You can see the similarity to your’s:

Do you know who made your cuff?

Hi, yes a young man named Tawma Lalo, going by the pic and bio from Garlands definitely young, he previously made traditional dolls using materials found near his home. He learned his craft watching his I think father who after he passed away had left him a bunch of turquoise stones and that cuff is the result. I’m keeping an eye out for anything else he makes.

I added all the pics from center to both sides.

Yes, I hear a lot of that, never sure which cuff they’re referring to since I usually wear my two current favorites. The other one is a massive concho design by Fred Bahe which I’m posting pics of for you et al. That’s a really nice Begay cuff by the way. I’ve been using an Erick Begay to repair my jewelry, don’t know if he’s related, he has a website N8tivearts.com.Very reasonable repair prices too.

That is a spectacular cuff. I love concho cuffs, and that one is the best one I’ve seen yet. @SilverWolf

I agree, quite a silversmith. I let it sit at Garlands for a few weeks and when no one bought it I decided to, no regrets. Hard to tell from the pics but that first silver rising up from the cuff is made up of individual sections reminds me of snake beads in a way. Keeping my eye out for other items he’s made.
