A very old ring and metal is so dark I’m not sure if it has any markings.
Always heard dont clean. So any help is greatly appreciated

Yes you hear that all the time but if you bought it for yourself you can do whatever suits you best. I personally don’t like my to look neglected. I use Sunshine clothes that I get from Amazon but there are others including gloves. 
I don’t usually polish mine to sparkling but I do like it cleaned up some. I have found hidden hallmarks that way plus the details show up better. Pretty stone.

For polishing, I use an old microfiber eyeglasses cleaning cloth. It works great and I can easily adjust how clean I get the piece.

Agree with @islandmomma, and also use Sunshine cloths, always with a very light hand (some of the main Native Am jewelry retailers include a Sunshine cloth with purchase).
