Identify Hallmark L4AZ

I have a sterling buckle sold from a reputable dealer as Navajo made with the hallmark L4AZ and Sterling. The 4 is slightly raised. It is deeply stamped into the back of the piece. I have found three other items at different Native American Jewelry sites which have this exact same stamp and it is described in each as Navajo-made. Any help would be appreciated. One dealer attributed it to Larson Lee, but I think that is incorrect.

Have a photo of it? Would help a lot.

Like this one? Couldn’t find anything trustable either.

There is a silversmith named Larson Lee, but even though he’s from AZ, he seems to use different hallmarks.

From my experience, when sellers have no clue, they state it’s Navajo because it’s the largest tribe in the US. And that attracts people more than saying no idea or potentially Asian

Btw, using “old pawn” in your user name might create quite some off-topic discussions here. Popcorn time.

@GhostRockOldPawn Hi & Welcome! I checked my 3rd edition of Hougart’s Native American/Southwestern Hallmarks book but, didn’t come across this specific hallmark. In your 3rd photo, the oval opening, at the back of the pin, gives me pause. To my knowledge, an opening like that isn’t a feature seen in Navajo artists or Native American jewelry. Could you please post a photo of the front of at least 1 item? That could be helpful. I’m hoping that others may have some info and chime in.

I could not find it, but I would bet money that that is not the hallmark of Larson Lee; not sure how they came up with that. I’m not even sure that that’s a Native American hallmark, the number in the middle is weird.

Thank you for posting these additional photos. I realllly like the turquoise belt buckle - it’s a nice southwestern style as is the coral bracelet. In my opinion, the two pins aren’t Native American or Southwestern style. I’d refer to them as artisan made. I guess it all hinges on a definite I.D. of this hallmark but, I’m leaning toward this not being a Navajo/NA hallmark.
ETA: Could this possibly be a shop hallmark?
