I’ve got this ring that’s I’ve been trying to find information on without luck. The mark is R. Livingston. I’ve seen that it could be Robert Livingston but I’m not totally sure. Would appreciate some confirmation and maybe a value. Thanks!
@Gab Hi & Welcome. That’s an interesting owl ring. The bear hallmark, with R.B., is a shop mark for the Running Bear shop. Co-hallmarked with R. Livingston may mean that he made the ring for the shop. I checked my Bille Hougart’s book on “Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks” but, I didn’t see a listing for any R Livingston. I’m not an appraiser so I can’t speak to the ring’s monetary value.
I had a sterling and gold manatee bracelet and I’ve seen a Harra’s bracelet. No one can confirm anything about the maker. Still a mystery. The artist does nice work.
This is the first time a shop mark has been associated with his work. Maybe they can help you.
Hello! Yes that’s all I’ve ever found Is that it’s running bear and never anything about the artist. I actually found a photo of an exact copy of this ring but it only had the running bear stamp and not this artist’s signature. Very interesting!
Yes thank you! I’ll probably have to look into that!
There is definitely a Robert Livingston who is a Navajo jeweler, because I have one of his pieces, and he has worked with BritWest who has a legitimate well known business making turquoise and silver jewelry, and she often collaborates with different Navajo artists. However, the hallmark on my piece is slightly different, so I don’t know that it’s the same person. If I were you I would contact the business and see if they know who this person is.
UPDATE: For anyone curious.. running bear got back to me and said they didn’t see a Robert Livingston or an R. Livingston listed as one of their silversmiths. The person that emailed me asked the owner and they said they think someone put ‘our’ stamp on it. So I’m not sure if they think someone put the running bear stamp on it or if someone put their own artist stamp on it.. kind of confusing lol. I’ve seen at least one other ring just like this with the running bear stamp.. so I guess someone put their own artist stamp on a RB ring. Who knows at this point!
Appreciate your followup.
I interpret that comment as, someone added the RB stamp. In any case, enjoy it, and thanks again for educating us on the result!
A Manatee bracelet sounds really interesting. Would love to see a photo or example as I love them and have never seen them depicted in NA work.
