Hello! I’d love any information that anyone has regarding this makers mark. This belt was purchased by my mother in the Santa Fe region in the mid-90s but other than that knowledge and the mark, I don’t know much else. Any help you could give would be great!
Hey @panmcc, the hallmark doesn’t jive, but the work resembles that of famed contemporary Cochiti Pueblo silversmith Cipriano Quintana, also known as Cippy Crazy Horse.
His earlier works are marked “CZH”, and his newer pieces are identified with back to back, somewhat stylized “C” 's. He’s known for bold stampwork and heavy gauge silver. Had you not posted the hallmark, he would have been be my first guess. I didn’t have any luck with the mark on your buckle, but perhaps one of our resident sleuths will be able to provide you with more helpful info.
Thanks for sharing, it looks like a very nice, high quality belt.
Thank you, Steve, for providing the pertinent info that I should have.
you called it based on style/workmanship. small window when that type mark was used.
If there’s any belief it’s by Cippy, one can contact the family and have them verify.
Thank you all so much - my mother HAD said that it was a Cippy CrazyHorse piece, but I could only identify two makers marks for him, but @Steve, thank you for providing evidence of more marks. Thank you @Ravenscry for finding almost the exact same belt. I’m going to have it looked into more, but I so appreciate all of your expertise!
Great looking belt, whoever made it!
