I recently acquired this piece and I’m confused as to which is the correct definition for IHMSS. I read online that it stands for Indian Handmade Sterling Silver but the piece I acquired says IndianHammers . Also, I could only find a Bisbee cuff bracelet by F. Morris listed online but no info on the artist. Any help is greatly appreciated
@Zippy528 Hi ~ IHMSS stands for Indian Hand Made Sterling Silver. “Indian Hammers” appears in my Hougart’s book on Native American/Southwestern Silver Hallmarks. However, that name is just listed with no info provided. I’m wondering if it was the name of a jewelry manufacturing company? Hopefully, others here will recognize the name and chime in.
ETA: F. Morris isn’t listed in my Hougart’s book.

This quote is from that thread.
@Patina Thank you for taking the time to reply. It’s really confusing to have those abbreviations referenced with different meanings. I’m also hoping someone can also chime in.
I knew Robert Gracia, owner of Indian Hammers. He was well respected, well liked in the industry, and his passing after a brief but difficult fight with cancer hit us all hard. His shop disbanded and went out of business after his passing.
Robert made very high quality jewelry, employed exclusively Native silversmiths, and this is his shop mark. You own a piece of authentic “indian Jewelry” history. Hope this helps.
@mmrogers I’m excited to learn you knew the shop owner personally but also saddened about your loss.
Thank you for always sharing your knowledge and expertise ; I always appreciate and value your insight.
The design is sooo beautiful. Could be used as a brooch or on a necklace if not too heavy.
@gt75 Thank you! It weighs a little over 49 grams and has a small bail to wear as a pendant
