Indian Market 2024

Today we attended Indian Market in Santa Fe, and it was great fun, as usual! It is such a huge event. So much to see.
The jewelry was top notch, and major eye candy.
I talked to Reggie Mitchell, who was funny and personable. Fabulous cuffs, but a bit out of my price range.
My friend Rodney Coriz was there, so we visited with him a while.
I met Naiomi Glasses, who was sweet and gracious.
Here are a few photos.

Jealous! We ended up canceling our plans to go this year. We even found an inexpensive Airbnb within walking distance— I’m sure someone else snagged it as soon as we let it go. You have to book before they send out the artist acceptance letters.

We went to the Fry Bread House for lunch as a consolation today.

I’m so glad you went, and took lots of pics for us! Someday maybe I’ll get there. We have a competition at our rink every year right around this time, and I can’t leave; maybe when (if!) I retire

I LOVE your Sunshine cuff. I have admired his work for quite some time. And your hubby’s cuff is great too.

That butterfly cuff, oh my! And those ring bezels! When I met Reggie I was so impressed with his personableness. I was fortunate to get one of his cuffs that was not as high priced, but I still loved it as much.

I’ll look at your pictures even closer later, I’ve got to head out. Glad you a great time!

@Stracci Thanks for the wonderful photos of Indian Market. I’ll take all of Nick Nez’s rings please & thank you. You & your hubby have great tastes in cuffs. Especially love the turquoise cab in your cuff! It’s so cool that you got to meet Naiomi G. I follow her on Insta. I’d purchase one of her woven rugs in a heartbeat. They’re so beautiful.

Thanks for posting this @Stracci. So interesting to see the delightful, whimsical artistic trend in so many of these pieces. The use and tendency toward heavier pieces with lots of mass is welcome as well. No mass market influences at all in the pieces you’ve posted. These artists are making exactly what pleases them, and doing a bang up job creatively.

Thank you for sharing your NDN market experience! Those of us that are not able to attend can see the artist’s offerings and imagine being there with you. Did you browse through Robert Johnson’s offerings? He was in the same area as Reggie Mitchell, from what I understand. Thanks again!

Sorry you didn’t make it! But you got an Indian taco, I hope.
We ate at a little cafe on Galisteo St. in the morning. A huge grilled green chile cheese quesadilla that we spit between us. We figured that would hold us till lunch.
They had four food trucks. Not nearly enough. By 2pm, one had run out of food, and the lines at the others were 30 people deep.
So we ate the granola bars we brought with us, instead!

You will make it one day, Zia! There was so much great stuff there. My head was spinning, thinking about all the things I wanted.

I was crazy about a tufa cast cuff from Henry Nez. He had such beautiful pieces.
I almost went back for it, before I ran across Sunshine Reeves later in the day.

Reggie greeted me like we were old friends, even though I’m sure he did not remember me from last year’s market.

Nick Nez’s work was truly amazing! Amazing prices, too. But well worth it if you want the very best.
Naiomi was kind enough to take a pic with me.

You are right! So many jewelers are working with modern and contemporary jewelry designs.

Isaiah Ortiz had people stopping in their tracks. I looked around, and everyone around his table was awestruck by his amazing work.
Fantasy cut ametrines and citrines! Paired with geometric carved sterling. Just stunning.

I wish you all could’ve been there too!
I did go by Robert Johnson’s table, but he wasn’t there.

Here’s another massive piece by Andy Marion.
He was showing us how the #8 stone looks like trees in a landscape.

I also spoke to Monty Claw, Perry Shorty, Arland Ben, and a few other well known jewelers.

Oh, what a nice photo! Thx for sharing. Naiomi comes across as a genuinely super nice person. Oh my, are those turquoise manta pins in her braided hair!?

I love this photo! I’ve never met her but she seems humble and gracious. That would definitely be a highlight for me.

Love the necklace you’re wearing in the pic!

Hopefully, but in the meantime I will enjoy though your experience! At least I can get to the market in Indy, and support the artists there.

Love your pic! You look great, and I love your necklace. There used to be a store here that sold fair trade or items from companies that donate to good causes with a purchase. Naomi Glasses had partnered with one to design blankets. We almost got one, but we have too many blankets as it is. But they were gorgeous!

So your market posts helped me get dressed for Church this am  I was not sure what to wear, saw your posts, and decided to wear my cowboy boots and Santo Domingo depression necklace (along with piling on some more )!

No picture of Reggie? :frowning:

I like the interesting and beautiful jewelry of Isaiah Ortiz. Love the cuffs you picked. Sunshine Reeves always uses top notch stones. Especially like hubbies. Some day I will go there…hopefully soon.

Do you know how much he was asking for that #8 cuff? I want to see if it’s close to my guess.

No pic of Reggie, he was busy trying to make sales, I didn’t wanna bug him!
I think Andy Marion wanted 3800 for that big #8 cuff.

Did you see Cheyenne Custer? She had a necklace that was the last collaboration between her dad and Robert Johnson. It was amazing.

I saw that! She had it at the Eiteljorg Indian Art Market in June.

Beautiful! Looks like an amazing event worthy of a road trip next year.

Lyle Secatero is one of my favorite artists. I have multiple pieces from him, including a ring I wear everyday. I’d love to have him do a custom piece for me someday.
