I hope I’m not overposting…old things just seem to find me. I’m putting the last cuff I posted on the back burner for this little morsel. It’s a squash blossom style necklace stamped H. Iule. It’s on consignment and fairly priced. I’m curious if anyone can tell the age of it. Apparently Horace Iule passed away in 1978. I’m also curious what kind of turquoise it might be. Also, the chain seems a bit loosey goosey…would it need to be restrung? (I wear everything I own…nothing sits in a box LOL) As always, I look forward to the group weighing in and seeing what I can learn! Thank you!!!
I think you should buy it!.. …and here’s my mailing address… …LOL…
I’m with you - if I won’t wear it I don’t buy it.
Seriously, I don’t even wear squashes, but this one I would be tempted! I like the way the naja is kind of squished together and the heaviness of the blossoms; it’s different.
Could the turquoise be sleeping beauty? Just making a wild guess.
@Ziacat I was wondering the same thing…if it was sleeping beauty…I don’t own any of it bc I’m always afraid I’ll end up with something fake. I fell in love with the uniqueness of this one too and I LOVE the “squatty” style beads.
Horace Iule is collectible and it’s a nice squash blossom. Over time the weight makes these heavy pieces stretch and get loose. Considering that and the age, I would probably have it restrung before I wore it much. I purchased one from that age and had it pop on me. Luckily I was in my car and found most of parts.
Sage advice @Islandmomma . That would be just my luck! I’m not sure how I feel about it being collectible. I don’t want to put it in a box and stare at it…I want to wear it! Get it’s vibe! Lol
What would be best to restring it with? Can you tell what decade this one is from compared to yours? Would that determine how it should be restrung?
@Islandmomma “…most of”… beats “none of”, but still, arghhhh!
I once lost a single stone from my sleeping beauty needlepoint cuff bracelet while visiting a museum in Grand Rapids, MI. I looked down and it was gone…I panicked and started retracing where we had been, since I had no idea where it came out (if even at that museum, we’d been all over that day). I was walking through the parking deck when the couple behind me said, “did you lose a little blue stone?” I looked and yes, she had it in her hand!!! How it had not been sucked into someone’s tire all day or kicked or that it was even a place we chose to look I do not know, but what a blessing!! And she sure had great eyesight.
I think foxtail would be the strongest option. It’s stronger than chain. It is harder to finish because you have to either solder it together at the end or crimp it shut. I sent mine off and had it restrung. Mine was all turquoise and coral with only silver accents and it was beyond my expertise.
From what I read he started producing work in the 20’s and dies in the 1970’s. It’s collectible but that sure doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wear it.
I appreciate your expertise @Islandmomma .If you have any recommendations on who might be reputable for restringing it, please message me. Thank you!
Islandmomma - Where did you have yours restrung, if I might ask?
The silver one I had restrung by Leon Curley. He is on Facebook and makes Silver necklaces from scratch. His son works the same way and his name is CC Rider.
This is a necklace that Leon made.
