Hello all. This is my first post. I bought this necklace some time in the mid 1980’s. It broke and a put it away till I could have someone qualified repair it in the way it should be done. I never was able to find anyone and put it away in my jewelry box 30 years ago and am only now revisiting it. I know it’s a Zuni Fetish necklace but know little more about it. I was wondering if anyone here might share more about it with me? It’s a lovely piece and I would like very much to have it repaired correctly if it has any real value. Thank you in advance for any light that might be shed.

Welcome @Inquisitivegirl, I’m afraid this is very likely an import! There are a lot of them out there like yours with stacked fetishes with a larger central figure. I’m assuming that is where the bear is from, the center of the necklace, because he has a hole from one side to the other instead of top to bottom! As you can see, a great number of the fetishes are the same, looking like a generic 4 legged creature with a long snout and a tail that curves upward. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be.

Anyway, thank you for your replies. So since it has no real value then it wouldn’t be a problem to just re-string it with something more durable so it an be enjoyed? Thank you for any and all suggestions. I guess they must have seen me coming. I think I paid 600 dollars for it in 1985 or 6? Oh well…it’s still quite pretty, I suppose. Thank you!
