I’m glad you asked. I didn’t see the vertical seams, but I was thinking the beads did not look handmade.

It’s not legal to sell bear claws in every state, if that’s even what those are, so that would need to be checked into. I don’t know the exact rules, because I am not a fan of claw jewelry.

Just googled it. It is not legal to sell them in every state, I would guess most states yes, but the first one that came up was California; not legal there. I imagine it’s to keep people from killing bears just for their claws.

You are correct @Ziacat . Senate Report 106-484 - BEAR PROTECTION ACT.

Maybe someone can research CITES, etc. and how claws in jewelry are regulated.

I had looked into this out of curiosity in the past, because my family had a bear rug in display in our store, and people kept pulling the claws out of it so dad finally brought it home, because he was so ticked off. I don’t know where it came from since I was just a little kid, and I don’t even know what happened to it.

Even though most people would be reasonable with selling bear claws, I can’t imagine what would happen if there were no laws. I’m thinking there is a large market for animal parts overseas, and it might really increase poaching.

I can’t tell if those are actual bear claws or not, and I have never looked up the laws on selling other animal parts.

Thanks. That a bit out of my range.

I just double checked, because this used to be the law and still is.

Wisconsin - OK to sell tanned skins or taxidermy rugs with or without the claws. The sale of teeth, claws, and skulls is prohibited.

I had a friend who was a taxidermist. Back then he said it was illegal to sell teeth, claws and skulls that had been used for art, too.

Good catch. Looks like plated steel beads I’ve seen elsewhere.

And the beads on the necklace you found are the sterling bench beads.

The beads appear to be nickel, which is something a buyer should be made aware of. Probably the whole necklace should have its silver content confirmed.
