Anyone live in the Pittsburg area? Four Winds Gallery is having a meet and greet (and buy?) show for Jennifer Curtis Friday and Saturday May 9th and 10th. What a treat it would be to meet her and see her gorgeous offerings
Oh @Stracci, check out Four Winds Gallery, they carry a great variety of high quality NA jewelry. I think you’d appreciate it. Carol Krena (Anglo) one of the gallery founders (along with her husband, John), is a fabulous Jeweler; you’ll appreciate her unique style!
@Bmpdvm
Growing up in PA, NA jewelry was not really popular. My parents loved and collected it, but they were not typical in that respect.
So this gallery is certainly unusual for the area.
I did look at the website a little, and the prices were a bit crazy. But then I’m used to pricing here in NM.
And I agree, Jennifer Curtis does amazing work!
I love Jennifer Curtis’s work and have some outstanding pieces from her. You can definitely see the influence and skill of her dad Thomas Curtis in her design and stampwork.
Four Winds has been a favorite of mine for a long time. John and his partner Jody started it I guess 50 years ago and John continues to be a beloved character in the dealer community. Re pricing they used to be less pricy than Santa Fe but are now equivalent. I personally have had fair, positive purchasing experiences, as well as trading/selling to.
Agree that Carol Krena’s jewelry is masterly and beautiful (modernist, non-Native).
For all of you who love Jennifer Curtis’ work as much as I do, look at her spectacular box! I’m so attracted to this design, I keep looking at it again and again…incredible!
That box is a real showstopper!
What else could’ve been done with this stone?
It’s really too big for a bolo, pendant or buckle.
And it would be a shame to carve it up into smaller pieces. The website says it’s Morenci.
So a box was a good solution, and I wouldn’t mind having it on my desk!
Good point @Stracci…I’d love to have this box! And I agree with @Ziacat, the huge Morenci stone is not my favorite… but you never see spectacular stones (ie, the spiderweb we all love, or other higher end turquoise) this size. So, I’m assuming she used what was available.
But wait… The huge stone in this Box is exceptional; likely extremely rare:
That is a beautiful stone, and I like it much better than the other one. However turquoise stones that size are not really what I love; I prefer it to be smaller, or several of them, set off with the silver around it. I’m just not a fan of the really giant stones for some reason, but obviously that’s just me
This gal has so many lovely things. I wouldn’t mind have a silver letter opener, an Art Deco brass desk bell and of course a sterling silver box with or without a nice size natural turquoise cab.
