Jesse Monongya Tufa Cuff

Definitely a good interesting read and it talks about how Loloma’s work changed everything and his philosophy of why it wasn’t an abandonment of tribally pertinent jewelry techniques but rather an evolution and a blossoming of the Native American artists ability to make anything their hearts desired as well as anybody else. Its only downfall is that their isnt any emphasis is making sure theirs information on the hallmarks of these well known and newer 20th century NA artists.

Hi Bigbree, That’s a very nice cuff. Just a thought and only going by your photo I would say that the cuff is not tufa cast but a piece of heavy plate that has been reticulated. A much more extensive process of heating and quenching the silver repeatedly until the surface collects pure silver and wrinkles as it cools. looking at the back of the stone mounts there seems to be some solder staining that indicated they were added after the cuff was formed. Does that sound right to you? Photo of reticulated material included.images
