Just pure wonderful non-jewelry stamped silver;

I pulled out a big box of Christmas items and behind the box was a small box with jewelry items I bought 3/2023. The Chavez cuff. A few rings and earrings and another nice hair pin. I still plan on sending my other hair pin (and other things) to be fixed by Perry Null. First I must get organized. I plan on selling everything except Chavez cuff and hairpin. The first ring has a nice chunk of pyrite…is the black matrix normal or is that deteriorated turquoise?

Nice! Wish I could find a box of jewelry hidden away   that clusterish ring in the left. I love love love when stones are different shades like that.

I think your little ring is fine, looks like matrix to me.

Thanks Zia. You would love going through my drawers and closets. You never know what you might find. I do like that ring too. may have to keep that one.

Me too, me too! Can I go through your closets too…Zia and I would likely fight over pieces😆. I do like that ring and remembered I just saw a similar ring on Al Anthony’s (Adobe Gallery) weekly post. It’s not exactly the same, but thought you might appreciate the info!

That’s a gorgeous ring, but kinda pricey? Is it because of its age? I couldn’t find that on the link.

It’s size 12!!#! Funny he is not including his estimate of age, he typically does. Al’s offerings are typically not inexpensive, but he only carries exceptional pieces. I love the variation in turquoise color! And, as you may have read, the butterfly shape is inspired by the traditional butterfly often seen on concho belts. I had never heard that, but it’s logical. I’m thinking mid-1900s…

By the way he has another butterfly Zuni ring on his site that is size 51/2 and only $650.00! Your size??

Yeah, those are both too expensive for me :joy: It’s making what I paid for my Anthony Lovato cuff look even better.

Completely understand… old Zuni ain’t cheap😆. Sounds like you got your Anthony Lovado cuff for a good price. The one I was considering at Garlands was around $800.00, and it sold😫. Any of the cuffs I like are more than that…everything’s going up!

I can say it was a bit less than that. For some reason Cameron Trading Post had a good price on it, and it was even one of their gallery pieces. The sales lady told me that sometimes they move a few of the gallery items into the regular gift shop.

The ring is definitely beautiful, but I don’t know that I like it anymore than lots of others I’ve seen. I’ve got a '60s Navajo cluster ring that I bought at Teec Nos Poc years ago that has the same look with the stones which was the main reason I bought it (and the silver was pretty thick which I also liked). I guess if you’re specifically looking for old Zuni that’s one thing. I just look for what I love (and can afford LOL).

Very nice and lovely ring. If had had coffee in my mouth, I would have spat it out looking at the $800 price tag. I could have almost two Reggie Mitchell cuffs for that price. :money_mouth_face:

Why does Adobe Gallery say…” Jeweler once known”. Why don’t they just say. “Unsigned”?

@nanc9354, I found the price bit surprising too! But he has clientele who pay his prices, and he will frequently accept reasonable offers. I think Al is just trying to convey that the maker, although they didn’t sign, was well known in their day, and produced quality pieces. I guess it separates these makers from just run-of-the-mill jewelers that don’t sign. Just my thought😬.

I drool over the high priced stuff, but I have seen IMO quite a few beautiful cuffs below (even well below) $800. That’s a good thing for my wallet  Although someday I may pony up more for another Reggie Mitchell cuff (not sure where @nanc9354 saw 2 for around $800 )

Unsigned means it was from the era when it could have been hallmarked/signed but wasn’t. The other expression is for work that generally wouldn’t have been signed because of its date (that is, predating the routine use of hallmarking) and the artist is not known or attributable.

I see this terminology growing in usage, I guess because someone decided it sounds more respectful than saying anonymous or nothing at all about the maker.

Thanks for the detailed explanation; now it makes more sense. Using the term “known” without an artist’s name still seems a little confusing to me, except I realize that my own job has some bizarre terminology to people who aren’t in it. We have a level called pre- preliminary, and my husband keeps saying that’s the stupidest thing ever  but it makes sense to those of us in the business.

I didn’t mean to demean a RM cuff. It really is hard to find prices on his work except for some of the larger pieces with gorgeous turquoise. you can find some very nice tufa cast cuffs on eBay or Etsy for under $500.

I know you weren’t! I just didn’t know where you’d seen any at lower prices. I’ve only shopped from him directly at the art market.

I just popped in on his Instagram account, He has a few items for SALE! And he shows the price, Everything I like doesn’t fit or it’s out of my price range. Maybe I ought to quit SGW, save up some money and purchase a beaut.
