Hello and welcome to Turquoise People.

Would you mind sharing a photo of the reverse of the buckle?

Sure. The picture is not the best but its clearly signed by him, he alsu uses KS on some pieces as well.

Welcome. Considering how much the belt below sold for, albeit it does have more stones, I’d say you did good. Nice looking belt. Congrats!

Thanks TAH! When I picked it up the girl at the auction house said I got a great deal and that the owner paid more for it 20 years ago.

Congratulations on a beautiful concho belt made by a master! Kirk passed in 2012, and his work is highly desirable and sells well.

I agree with @TAH, and have seen a number of his belts sell for much more than $1400. Lone buckles that bear his hallmark have fetched close to what you paid for your whole belt.

Would you mind sharing a bit about yourself? Are you a collector? What are your areas of interest in Native American jewelry?

Again, welcome to the forum!

Thank you! Im kind of new to the scene, but i love the workmanship and pride creating art such as this. Ive always been interested in native american art and artifacts. My wife and I frequent estate sales and auctions always looking for interesing pieces. I also picked up a neat zuni silverware set at the same auction id love to hear your feedback. I posted it on here, I guess we are collectors at this point, as we have never sold anything. Thank you for your advice. :grinning: i think I also have some sort of native ancestry but sadly have never been able to prove it definitively. My family was horrible about keeping records. Maybe thats why ive always been drawn to it.

At $1400, you stole it. Fantastic buy! Congratulations.

I should have clarified my thoughts when I mentioned Kirk’s work is desirable. Whether or not something “sells well” shouldn’t, I feel, have much bearing on a decision, unless you plan to resell, obviously. I was just making a point that the market for his work is a strong one. His untimely passing certainly being influential in this.

This is what, in my opinion, should push someone towards an acquisition. It’s great to learn that your simply passionate about the art and that you’re not requesting opinions so as to turn around and make a quick buck. Which is a point of contention around these parts.

There are many knowledgeable members here who’s thoughts would serve you much better than my own concerning these. They look like neat pieces! I admit my main area of study and passion is in a bit of a different category.

Thanks again for sharing!
