I just wanted to share this.
A few days ago, a very dear friend gave me this ring.
He did not say where he got it, but probably a thrift store or flea market.
I really like it, and I think it is Navajo, not Hopi.
What do you guys think?
I think it is cute. Iâve seen that hallmark a few times on jewelry itemsâŚbut it is unidentified on this site.
@Stracci Thatâs a very nice gift! I agree that itâs likely Navajo and not Hopi. A while ago, I read on Garlandâs web site that Hopi overlay will have a fine texture etched into the base layer. In Navajo overlay, the base layer silver is left smooth. Iâve been using this as a guide while researching overlay jewelry to purchase.
Yes, I agree.
The lack of tool marks in the blackened area make me think Navajo.
WellâŚThis has the same unknown hallmark that I call the fuzzy jellyfish, WITH the finely textured base layer! Bought from the âvintage sectionâ at The Palms Trading Co. in Albuquerque in January of 2022! This lives in my pocket everyday!
Hey, I have the same vintage Leatherman.
I love my little Leatherman Micra! I have gifted a few! Some years ago I found them at a Walmart for 14.95 and bought 5 of them! The blade is like a scalpel when they are new! Thatâs what sold me!
Cool ring! I would agree itâs Navajo not Hopi.
Thanks @AC! So the same maker, Iâm sure.
I have a crazy idea. Since I drive by Palms once a week, maybe Iâll pop in ask them if they recognize the mark.
Would they think Iâm weird?
Itâs worth a try! There has been a fairly in-depth discussion about this Hallmark on Facebook! No one seems to know who it belongs to!
Please let us know what you find out! Maybe fuzzy jellyfish has a nameâŚ
It also kind of reminds me of one of those little bugs that roll up in a ball, pill bugs?
Just curious, because this hallmark reminds me of one that just came up on the site a day or two ago. Did you ever check at Palms if they knew this hallmark?
No, havenât been back.
Iâve driven by many times, but usually before they open.
This is a screenshot from my friend Kathy Vidal who is very knowledgeable! She owns âCrown Jewels and Coinâ in Albuquerque. Her family has been in turquoise for generations!
Thanks @AC !
This clears up the mystery of the mark!
Crown Jewels and Coin is in my vicinity.
Small world.
Thank you! Clears up the mystery about both marks!
OMG, thatâs great you found out who these belong to. Chuck Lindsay also uses a âcrooked-footâ Kokopelli figure as a hallmark. But if this is true, it ends my 2 year search for the jellyfish/pill bug/porcupine/shining half-moon hallmark!
I feel like we also have been looking forever for who that hallmark belongs to
