Found this today at my favorite thrift shop. Unfortunately, my friend is closing the shop at the end of the year.
She showed me the necklace and had some questions about it. We both thought it was nickel silver and a modern stringing.
It is strung on beading wire. The clasp has an older look to it, as do the end beads next to the clasp. One has a scrap of metal on it.
There is no texturing on the bird.
The heishe beads are olive shell.
There are no hallmarks on it. This is the back of the pendant.
I ended up purchasing it for $5, after she said she was going to put it in one of her $5 jewelry grab bags.
Would appreciate any thoughts one might have.
Thank you.

I personally would test it. Maybe you’ll get surprised. Regardless it is a cool necklace. I love peyote bird.

One quick test for sterling while out hunting (especially if tarnished) is to give the “silver” a good rub with your finger. Then smell your finger (no kidding
). If it gives off a noticeable acrid type odor
it is most likely plated. Sterling and coin silver tarnish will just rub off and leave a dark mark on your finger.

I did the smell test in the store, but I am having allergies right now and can not smell much.

Overall it looks NA to me. I can never tell about those elongated beads.

Thanks. The melon beads appear to have some age to them.

I agree. They look the same age as the round bench beads which I’d say with confidence are sterling. The tarnish on the melon beads looks like sterling tarnish. I think you did well.

Thank you for your comments. When my nose is not so stuffy, I will try smelling everything again.
