This is my late Father’s buckle. I wasn’t old enough when he passed to have the hindsight to ask more about it. It has S P on the back. It looks to be two pieces of Number 8 turquoise. Hope fully the pictures will show the beautiful aqua blue with brown matrices clearly. Any help or information would be GREATLY appreciated!
Welcome to Turquoise People! Seems like a lot of SP hallmarked jewelry out there, majority gets attributed to a Zuni artist Sam Poblano. This looks like another one by your buckle maker, Museum Quality Vintage Navajo Turquoise Coral Native American Jewelry – Nativo Arts. You are just going to have a pre-internet problem identifying this one. Its at an age where you run into a difficult time identifying the artist. Enjoy the buckle and wear it, the value is in the history of your father passing it down.
Thank you Jason! I really appreciate your input. We thought Sam Poblano, too, but the majority of his work is different than this which is why we weren’t sure. Any input on the type of turquoise (where it may have been mined)?
