Some of you may be familiar with Pools of Light jewelry.
It was a style made in the Art Deco era, consisting of undrilled rock crystal orbs connected together to form a strand. Usually set in sterling.
If you can find a genuine Pools of Light necklace, they are generally $$$$.
So imagine my surprise when I walked into a thrift store in Corrales NM, and found just one orb attached to a cheap pearl and dyed bead strand.
Score! I grabbed it immediately.
I liberated it from the strand and created a pendant with another rutilated quartz bead.
The clear quartz reverses the image seen through it. Fascinating.
Mystical! What an amazing find. I have never heard of Pools of Light before. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece and jewelry lesson with us.
Interesting.
Do they usually have metal adornments to them?
I only learned about them a few years ago myself. I’ve been on the hunt ever since, so I was thrilled to find this one bead from a dismantled strand. Whoever took the original necklace apart needs a long lecture!
Some have a partial wrap with a floral motif like the one I found. Some necklaces have a more simple wire wrap, but I don’t like those ones nearly as much.
There are lots of fakes/replicas online, so collectors need to be careful.
I just googled pools of light. Wow, what an amazing gem you stumbled upon. I really enjoy learning about them. Thank you for posting it here!
That’s the way to do it @Stracci
Thanks Steve!
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it, mixed in with a bunch of costume jewelry.
