I have worn this bracelet daily for approximately 40+ years and now it has snapped. Yes, the stones are cracked etc. but is it salvageable? I will be so sad to have to retire it.
Oh, what a bummer! You could try contacting Perry Null in Gallup. They do a great job with repairs. I sent a cuff there that I had been told wasn’t worth fixing, and PN did a fabulous job. At least they could prob give you an estimate of how much it would cost and then you can decide if it’s worth it.
Honestly … I guess both the stones as well as the bracelet have been beautiful in the past, it has served you well. I would not get it repaired. I know you love the piece but you can buy a new one that attracts you, and enjoy the new piece. Sell the silver and give the stones to kids in your family as little treasures.
Awww. It is a much loved piece. I had a cuff break like that, too (the silver, not the stones), and Perry Null sautered it back together such that I can’t even see the repair. I don’t know if stones can be fixed, though…probably worth asking. Cracked stones can certainly remain tight and secure in a piece, but it could also crumble or fall out, so be careful.
I’d repair it if it is possible; sounds like it is pretty special to you.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I will reach out to Perry Null as suggested. I live in New England, and as you can guess, we are not known for a wealth of turquoise choices to replace this much loved piece.
I think when an item is soldered the stones have to be taken out, so that might be a big issue with the cracked ones, because I’m not sure how well they could put them back in after (but I might be all wrong on that). But, if it were me, I would definitely call and find out! Worst case scenario, maybe you could take the solid stone, and have it made into a ring or something. I actually had that done with some old earrings that fell apart.
Yes, the jeweler I spoke to said it needs to be deconstructed to be fixed and would probably not make it. But I will ask a turquoise/ silver professional
I’m usually the one to chime in with unpleasant truths. IMHO the stones look pretty much shot and not worth trying to salvage. You definately got a lot of mileage out of it. I think they may break up more. However, the silver is very repairable. Add new stones and you are good to go. Think of it as an organ transplant and a new life for your bracelet. I also recommend PN.
