I recently bought this vintage ring. It has no hallmark or stamp. The matrix looks like it’s bleeding into other areas plus there is this border on the stone itself. The seller said that it’s remnant of the stabilization process. What do you think? Thanks for your input! I recently found my love of turquoise and I’m learning more.
@Ihavequestions Hi & Welcome! That’s a nice ring & a beautiful turquoise stone. I often see turquoise cabs “backed” with a solid black material. I believe it may help support the stone in its mounting. Though, I haven’t before seen a cab surrounded by that material. Hopefully, others with more knowledge will chime in.

The black could be Devcon, whichj is used to back cabochons.
