Hi! I’m new to this forum. I recently purchased this item and wonder if it is authentic Navajo silver/turquoise ring. There is a 3 line symbol/artist signature at the bottom, but no other markings. Feels and looks like silver and feels and looks like turquoise but I’m a novice. All thoughts/opinions appreciated.
@Wren Hi & Welcome. Nice ring with a terrific turquoise cab. I can’t really tell if we’re seeing a whole, or partial, hallmark. As is, it looks like a bird track to me. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to identify the hallmark. The shadowbox style, with that extra wide band, leads me to consider your ring may be Anglo made and not necessarily Native American. Just my opinion. Also, does a magnet stick to the silver? If the magnet just slides off, it’s most likely sterling silver.
Hey! Thanks for the welcome. I gave it the magnet test and it doesn’t stick. Can a jeweler tell me definitely if it’s sterling? Is it common to find sterling without the hallmark? I’m bummed it may not be NA. The seller told me the artist was Tommy Singer but a simple google search dispelled me of that thought straight away. I purchased it anyway because I liked the stone.
@Wren. Yes, a jeweler can verify whether your ring is sterling or not. Sometimes, jewelry may not be marked for metal content but, I don’t think that’s too common. I have a book on Native American hallmarks and that is not a Tommy Singer hallmark. I say wear your turquoise ring & enjoy it!
I love this ring! I love the style, and the fact the it looks to have been worn and loved. Since the maker is unknown, it is hard to say if it’s Navajo, however I do have several Native made rings that are shadowbox, and a couple with very wide bands, but I don’t think any with both.
I’m thinking that stamp is not a hallmark; they are usually on the inside. I’m wondering if it’s possibly just a mark that happened during the making of it (I feel like I remember Jason once mentioning that about a similarly placed mark)
Agree, not Tommy Singer’s Hallmark.
Oh interestIng! Thank you for the feedback. And it has definitely been loved. The previous owner had it for years, developed arthritis in her hands and couldn’t wear it anymore. It sits very comfortably on the finger.
I would wear it a lot. I really like those bigger bands, because it seems like the thinner ones often flatten from wear.
