Wow 1991! Much later than I thought!
And about practicality: craftspeople from traditional societies don’t exist inside a bell jar. Change/progress and technology have always made their impact, and in many cases have dramatically improved people’s material situation. Makers are “allowed” to be part of contemporary life, including access to goods and ideas.
This doesn’t ice out or diminish the incredible work of those who deliberately carry on with labor-intensive ways that aren’t strictly necessary, whether in weaving or jewelry or other forms.
I would bet a silver bar that this video was a set up. As are most videos I see online these days.
It’s a minefield out there, people.

he has been doing interviews like this for years covering many hot topics
Many people believe if you see it on the internet it has to be true. Funny he never shows someone not being stupid.
Same as “reality” TV. It’s anything but.
Well if it is indeed real, then I am flabbergasted at the stupidity of these people.
And the fact that they would take candy from a stranger. I world never trust a candy bar from a random dude on the street.
To be honest, when I shop for stuff I don’t think of resale at all. I do not do any reselling. I just buy what I love ![]()
My mom and dad had quite a few antiques, because dad would use them for store displays, and many made their way to my parents’ house. So after my mom passed (dad was already gone), and we were selling the house, we each picked out what we wanted, and then we were selling/donating the rest. My brother kept saying, “we could get better prices online,” and I said, “YOU can get better prices online; I’m not going to deal with it.” In the end he didn’t want to deal with online sale sites either, so we just hired an auction house.
But I would certainly have taken the silver bar over the candy bar!
I would thoroughly enjoy having a real silver bar like that.
Holy moly it’s wild now, price shot up almost $3 in 10 minutes
Maybe just temporary insanity.
What a way to start the morning! My brother and I had been talking about this the other day but it didn’t seem as real as watching this video. My sister-in-law is in the banking system so we hear things from her too. What a mess! And to think I was upset when China took control of the mines and stopped exporting turquoise a while back. ![]()
$130/oz. Now that will be the time to cash out.
when $130.00 is visible $300.00 is possible

you can see the empty trays on the desk
Hmmm… Silver panic buying… I’m thinking I need to buy that cuff online I’ve been looking at since the last year to do my part. Sounds like a good excuse to me ![]()
Was thinking the same thing yesterday. From a craftsman’s point of view something logically has to replace gold, which for all intents and purposes is becoming far too expensive to be practical for use in anything but the most prohibitively expensive jewelry items. Silver is increasingly the only alternative which checks all the boxes in terms of versatility, workability, and affordability, Even at $300 and ounce it would be 15 times less costly for the consumer than $4500 gold.
From a production and skills standpoint, pretty much any equipment infrastructure and technique designed for producing gold jewelry can be used directly for the production of silver jewelry with virtually no changes or special adaptations.
To me the evolution of silver as a true top tier metal seems inevitable, and barring a miracle, absolutely certain as public perception and adoption of silver as the go to metal of choice for fine jewelry at the $100 - $300 an ounce level takes hold. I actually dreamt about this last night.
I don’t understand why the miners are not up more.
look where the mines are
and who controls them
