This cross is a fair size at 2.7” x 3.55”. This previous owner thought the turquoise in this cross was Bisbee (sorry the iPad camera does not capture the true blue and reddish matrix). Does not matter to me (but we all secretly or not so secretly want our [precious] turquoise to be Lander Blue or Bisbee) It’s a great cab wherever it came from. I’m hoping someone can ID the mark.
@StevesTrail I checked my Hougart’s book for the hallmark. Looks like “Aruso” to me but that name’s not listed in the book. There are several listings for “Arviso” though none of those hallmarks show a cactus pictograph. Not trying to be a Patina Party Pooper but, I’d be surprised if that cab is Bisbee turquoise.
I’ll try for a better photo. Looks more like sleeping beauty or blue gem.
What about AR USA? It’s not clear but ?
That was my first thought when I saw it. No luck with AR in that font though. And it looks like USD (US dollars?) ![]()
I wondered about USA or USD but just couldn’t make it work. The last letter looks like it has a downward “tail” coming out on the bottom left. That just makes it more confusing, imo. ![]()
I took a good photo of the stone and did an alcohol wash to make sure the color was not red rouge.
Much better. That actually looks like a Bisbee possibly. Regardless, it’s a pretty stone.
Thanks, that sure made a difference. I agree that it’s a pretty piece of turquoise.
I’m still finding it too pale in the blue for Bisbee (nonexpert here) but it’s very pretty.
I’m sure @Steve could photoshop it to bring out the “Bisbee” in the stone. ![]()
And there it is…Bisbee to order.
