The local Fall Gem and Mineral show 2025

We attended our local Fall Gem and Mineral Show again. I’ve been going faithfully for the last 20 years. I wouldn’t dream of missing it! (There’s a Spring show every year also)

So here’s what we came home with.

Starting at the top, going clockwise:

Two from Tyrone, two from Kingman, two Morenci and the center stone is a really nice #8.

A purplish star sapphire and three dinosaur bone cabs

And hubby picked out this Damale variscite

Here is a partial shot of the venue. It is much bigger than this, but I couldn’t get it all in the camera frame.

And here is some nice jewelry from Sunwest Silver who had a large display there.

You picked some amazing cabs. I can hardly wait to see what you will do with them.

I’m Definately jealous. Nothing even close to that show out here. You picked well, again. Nice selection.

@Stracci You sure chose some beauties in that 1st photo! Every one of those turquoise cabs is dazzling. Looking forward to seeing your new creations. We went to our local, annual Gem & Mineral Show yesterday - told my husband I see no need to go anymore. Our Show is nothing like what I’m seeing in your photos. We’re overdue for a vacation - Autumn 2026 in NM…

I’m excited too! Now I have to come up with new ideas! Of course you all will be the first to see the finished items.

Thanks Steve! It’s a great show that I look forward to every year.

There are 2 shows, one in March and one in October. Each put on by different organizers, so the vendors are different at each show. Lots of specimens, faceted gems, fossils and finished jewelry. Something for everyone.

I’m a goofy gem nerd, so I just love being there in my element.

I love the cab with brown matrix and the turquoise stripe. What kind is it?

That one, and the next one going clockwise are both Tyrone.

went yesterday to new jerseys fall gem & mineral show :slightly_frowning_face: it was a ghost town.

less than 2/3 of the size of the spring show and the spring show was even smaller than usual.

my 2 favorite dealers were not on the list but we went anyway.

That’s too bad about the show. We have nothing down here in the way of a decent gem show. IMO, the east coast never was that great for gem shows. Back in the 80s the MJSA show in NY was great. Went again 25 years later and the good gem dealers were gone, as were the bronze doors and doorman at Van Cleefs, along with the great jewelry creations. They went main stream commercial.

Used to have a good antique show at the fairgrounds but dealers kept showing up with the same unpriced goods year after year. Kept getting smaller until it disappeared.

Sorry to hear this about your Gem & Mineral Show but, can’t say I’m surprised. Our Show this year was similar & so dull - I won’t be going back. As longtime vendors retire or pass on, it seems there aren’t other vendors available to replace them. Maybe interest overall is waning for this hobby, among other factors, that’s causing this decline.

Nice haul @Stracci!:two_hearts:! Lucky you! I especially love the No 8…just yummy! And the fossilized dino bone cabs are fabulous. Do you mind showing the backing on the No. 8, it looks pretty thick (?). Is that typical with older No. 8. If you have a plan for it please update us :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.
