This "repair" might make some shudder, but it was easy

I inherited this lovely Duane Maktima hummingbird pin from my mom that I use as a pendant (I never wear pins). It has no bail, so I run a leather cord through the bar. Unfortunately the clasp is loose, so for fear of losing it, I practically never wear it. I tried to squeeze the clasp with a pliers to no avail, so I resorted to (gasp) super-gluing it shut. I don’t want to have a bail added, because I really like the way it hangs on the cord.

So now my hummingbird has a new life!

It’s not taboo to do this, as the glue can be removed later, if necessary. (with acetone)
It’s your pin, and you can do what you want with it!
A very wise man once told me “it’s mine and I can f* it up if I want to!” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Words to live by.

Good fix, Zia!

I love that

I was afraid if I squeezed with the pliers too hard it would break, and then I couldn’t use it at all, so super glue to the rescue!

I like how it hangs on the cord, too. I use epoxy to do some simple repairs on jewelry.

This is so beautiful. Yup it’s totally reversible. A glue gun can work wonders too and you just kinda peel it off. Such a lovely piece

Thank you! Mom bought two pins from him at the Eiteljorg Indian Art Market years ago.

And good to see you on here again!

You’re so welcome :grinning: Thanks so much Ziacat. I have been lurking a bit lol. I just had to respond to such a gorgeous piece

Yes, looks like the little guy is hovering below some kind of hanging flower. I think if it was on a bail in the same spot it would slide around a bit, and hang more horizontal.

Looks great! As long as it’s stable, what you did works. I am the same; never wear pins so I usually convert them or rig them to work as pendants. I have a great parrot pin that I also like to wear balanced on a silver chain attached by the pin apparatus; I smashed the top of the pin back to grip the thick chain I use so it doesn’t flip forward. Have also used a small jump ring or one of those vertically facing pin converters to hold them in place. The converters come in all directions.

I have one of those pin converters, but it really doesn’t work well on this particular pin because of its angle. I use it for other ones though.

Such cool pin @Ziacat! Did this one make the birds thread?

I think it did! But I’ve been frustrated for so long with not feeling comfortable wearing it, that I finally gave in and used the glue
