So a friend gave me a chunk of rough turquoise and I shaped and polished it but trying to get opinions on the quality of the stone and maybe a little feedback on my work since I’m just beginning this is only the 4th cab ive ever attempted so some constructive criticism would be appreciated thanks
I could be totally wrong, but the stone looks like a phat chunk of Bisbee turquoise to me. If it would turn out to be that indeed, then perhaps you should put it aside for now and start working on some other (lower grade) turquoise, since good Bisbee is quite valuable. Also, did the stone smell slightly funny/sweet when you were cutting it, or did it smell like wet earth?
I like the polished side you did, looks nice imo, but if your goal is to have the stone set in jewelry then you should get better angles at the sides, so that the stone would be held (more securely) in place by a bezel. The bottom should also be made flat for it to be set in jewelry. Also, it’s too thick the way it is, you should probably saw it at least in half. You would get better yield (multiple cabs) as a bonus when sawing it.
If the goal is to simply carry the stone around in your pocket, then i think it would be fine.
