Ooohhh, that’s absolutely gorgeous, so the style of something I would love to buy. Thanks for posting!
This is really a special piece, @Islandmomma. The combination of the cast, textured wavy background station framed by a low dome shadowbox. with the hand stamped and sawed cornstalk overlay, hinged turquoise bail station, and stampwork back is amazingly original. A true work of art!
I still need to boost the corn in my collection. Shared this before, but here’s corn on the stalk on both sides of my Victor Coochwytewa Butterfly Maiden (Pahlik Mana) bracelet.
Yes! I was hoping you’d post this cuff; it is the reason why I still have buying a large Hopi cuff on my to do list someday! I was completely planning to this past summer and then got the Lovato cuff. I love love this!!
Thank you and agree you’d rock the heck out of a big ol Hopi cuff. I’m so taken with your Custer, Garcia, and Lovato pieces; I have zero tufa cast! It’s nuts! Help me out this June at Eiteljorg, will ya?
Oh I’m totally in love! What a great cuff!
@Islandmomma Thank you so much. The people at Kopavi in Sedona have done so much to support fine Hopi jewelry artists, Victor among them.
And your Roy T pendant is sensational!
I would love to help you spend your money
@Ziacat Goes two ways, Sis
Uh oh, I better warn the hubby that I’m saving up
Love all of the corn jewelry pieces - I made the mistake of passing up a lovely brooch years ago and have been kicking myself ever since.
My laptops cooling fan was fritzy, and I fixed it all by myself - so am back in the interwebbies again as I feel like I’ve been gone forever.
Closest I could find is James Mason (and it’s not quite right), but when I googled his work, I couldn’t find anything sand/tufa cast. It’s a really beautiful pin.
Thank you for posting these images of corn jewelry. I’m really impressed with this new knowledge. Were these images included in ancient pieces? I understand the command ring design that I never saw as corn and belt buckle.
Thank you again!!!
Oooh, OMG that cuff!!! I hadn’t realized it had the corn motif along with Victor’s fabulous Pahlik Mana mask. I do believe this is the nicest Hopi overlay cuff I’ve seen…and by Victor:heart:. I should use you as a source to help me find an exceptional Hopi overlay cuff, lol…I’ve been looking for a while. Now that I’ve seen yours again, I’m on back on a quest!
OK, but I googled James and saw everything from simple bezel rings to inlaid work to fancy articulated eagles looking like their from China to “Old Pawn”. Some of just about every type of jewelry had James Mason’s name attached to it.
Is there a reason you think the corn pin is made by him?
I didn’t say I thought it was for sure made by him, I just said that was the closest I could find on a hallmark. And that I wasn’t able to find any other sandcast pieces by him online. And when I Google, I pretty much throw anything out from Etsy or ebay, they are full of mistakes. I guess I was just basically saying it’s a remote possibility.
Gotcha, and thanks for looking.
I spent some time looking up the other JM possibilities on the list and tho I saw a lot of beautiful pieces, nothing like the pin in question. Its not a big deal but how nice would that be, to attach the makers name to a loved piece.
I hear you; I have a most likely Zuni cuff that is signed, and I’ve never been able to find out anything about the artist. I noticed that some of the James Mason pieces on legit sites were really nice, and it made me wonder if an artist ever occasionally works in sandcasting, cause that hallmark is pretty close to what yours is. Maybe something will turn up eventually!
