After over 3 years and well over hundred celebrities, this next celebrity was probably the most active and serious of all and was totally off my radar. I’ll start with one of his quotes and a short bio, because he deserves a little more recognition than most.

“American Indians are our only true American artists, our real cultural heritage, an incredible creative force that have been a very real source of inspiration to the fortunate few who have made Indian art part of their living experience.”

Vincent Price was known as an art connoisseur, and was a champion of American Indian / Native American art in particular. From 1967-1972, Price served as Chairperson on the Indian Arts and Crafts Board to promote the economic development of Indigenous artists. He establish the first creative writing award for Indigenous students and insisted on using his interview with Johnny Carson to read their poems. Price supported the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and he has been the subject of discussions at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe. He was a passionate collector of, and advocate for, Indian art during his lifetime.

Here he is wearing the same watchband throughout his life…

And a few miscellaneous photos…

His daughter Victoria ran a famed high-end Native American jewelry etc. shop in Santa Fe for years, right on the plaza: Price-Dewey Gallery, in the same location Shiprock Santa Fe is today. I met her there many years ago, lovely person.

I did not know that! My dad liked him (I think dad had an album with him reading something), and to me his awesome laugh at the end of Thriller is just classic.

In this interview, Vincent Price speaks briefly about his watchband and rings starting at 3:30, but the rest of the interview is interesting too.
