Turquoise, chalcedony (or gem silica)?

Edited to add apologies for out of focus pics. :upside_down_face: 1st 3 in bright sunshine outside.

I bought this very simple ring on ebay many many years ago. It was described as turquoise but is very very smooth almost glass like and a bit reflective with light. Looking into it, it gives the impression of looking through water. The little green flecks almost appear to be floating within the blue, like a 3d appearance. A beadstore owner thought it might be chalcedony or even gem silica chalcedony? Or chrysocholla chalcedony? Is there such a thing? Or some weird larimar? But it has green almost dendritic flecks?
What do you all think the stone is? And does it appear Native American style or origin? There is an odd mark on back of ring near where shank meets it …

And here it is between a sleeping beauty cluster ring and a bright ‘Bisbee blue’ ring.

I’m not really sure, but I have a pawn Turquoise ring that reminds me a bit of this, but I have no idea what mine it came from.

As far as being Native made, I don’t know. I wouldn’t have known if mine was either, because it has no hallmark and is a non-typical style, but I bought it from the Hopi House when the owner was Jeff Ogg who knew his stuff.

Thanks, @Ziacat, for the reply. Interesting! It is one of my favorites. Would be really cool if it is a ‘special’ kind of turquoise , although all turquoise is special :upside_down_face::wink:

And I’m really not sure, because I googled Gem Silica and some of those do look like your ring. Hopefully someone will chime in that knows more about it.

Maybe @Steve? @Jason? @Stracci? @StevesTrail? Calling all gemstone and rockhound peeps… pretty please :slightly_smiling_face::upside_down_face:

I got mine out and looked at it closer, and it doesn’t remind me as much of yours as I thought; has a bit of that milky appearance, but mine is not as shiny.

I also think what you’re looking at on the back side might just be something that happened in the process of making the silver, not a hallmark.

Thanks for the pic of your very special ring. I really like that stone. The green flecks look similar. Yours reminds me of pics of Blue Gem turquoise with that really pretty clear blue color.

Mine is shinier almost like a glass doublet but no glass layer appears to be visible from the side?

I wondered whether the mark on the back was an actual mark… It is really weird, almost like a backwards ‘5’ and has a deep imprint I can put my fingernail in… very odd… another pic

Yes the only thing that seemed different to me was the shininess. Some of the gem silica pictures had that shine, but I don’t know a lot about other kinds of stones. Whatever the case, your stone is beautiful and it’s a really sleek looking ring. All three of your rings are lovely!

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it might be a nice piece of Peruvian opal.
Beautiful color!

Ooh, the color matches! Thanks @Stracci. I have a couple beads made of Peruvian opal that have green flecks but are a little more opague. Just looked up good quality Peru opal and it looks similar to the stone in my ring! Cool!

Peruvian opal was my first thought, but I might be wrong.
I think gem silica is way too expensive to be set into a ring like this, but stranger things have happened!
