If you’re like me, you probably search around the internet to look at Native American jewelry and art. Frequently, I come across pieces that are rare, special, or simply spectacular that perhaps I would love to own, but can’t afford or I just enjoy admiring.
I know there are many great pieces that I miss. If you come across something you would like to share, this thread will serve that purpose.
For example, this Etsitty Tsosie concho belt, circa 1930s. In my opinion, it just doesn’t get much better than this…
Those are both fabulous! That is what Smokey Bisbee should be. Amazing what is referred to as “Smokey” Bisbee! But now I need to look up Narcozari turquoise…pyrite to the max! I’ve not heard of it!
OK, I’ll try again🥴. Great we can see a good variety!
Two of my favorite artist!
First, a fabulous sterling box and necklace by Joseph H Quintana (Cochiti):
So I still hope to eventually purchase a Mary Tafoya hummingbird necklace, and for me I would prefer the hummingbird alone on a necklace (almost bought one last year), but oh my! This piece is absolutely incredible. The inlay work on this is just so gorgeous.
He had a cuff very similar to this at the Eiteljorg Market the year I bought a smaller cuff from him. Looking back
I really wish I’d plunked down the money for this one, but it was just a bit too much for my budget.
I’ve had this clipped in files for eons: Massive Mark Chee smoky Bisbee. To my eye the pinnacle for this stone. It’s been listed for years, for $35K,
by what appears to be a now-defunct website.
i do not! i have them on my pinterest, but both of them were apparently from auction sites (ruby lane and ebay), but the links back to the original listings are defunct.
So I assume it comes with a notarized statement from Richard Dann that he purchased it directly from the mine owner. For that price it should include an original receipt. Hence, provenance verified.
I think so, from reading the description. I’ll include some screenshots of it here, if i may, because i thought it was an interesting read. (I obviously have nothing to do with the auction)
I think I’ll stick with Bob at Nevada Gem if I want Lander Blue. His cabs run $300-$400 per carat, a lot of $ but there can be a lot of waste with rough and you never know what the inside of that rock is until you slab it.
At ~$123 per carat I think it’s a bit of a gamble. You need to triple your money to make a profit and I see a bit of “crap rock” in that piece. It would have to be ALL AAA grade cabbing rock, and even then…?
