Unusual Cuff Closure

I have been away from this site for too long, but I am hoping that someone can tell me more about this cuff. I have seen this type of closure on a ponytail holder, but this is the only bracelet I have seen. Everything looks handmade to me and perhaps very old. There are no marks. What do you think? Thank you for your thoughts!

It appears old to me, with the stamping motifs.
Could it be a “bun holder”? These were placed between the bun and head to keep everything in place.

I guess it could be. It fits my 6 1/2" wrist so it can be worn as a cuff. Thank you for your thoughts!

I found this ponytail holder on ebay’s Canada site. Really like your piece : )

Hi Melinda, the piece is crudely made, but doesn’t look that old. 6.5” total circumference including the overlapping ends is unlikely to be a bracelet for any but the smallest wrists. I would characterize this piece as experimental. The maker is clearly experimenting with stamp making, as well as silversmithing techniques and is likely to be a beginning intermediate learner working in a Native style, but probably unlikely to be a Native silversmith.

I appreciate your thoughts. I was saying it fit my 6 1/2" wrist and I am not that small. Do you think even with the whirling logs that this piece is not Native American and not old? Thank you!

Thank you! That is the example (the only one) I found.

Would make the circumference more like 7.5 inches or so. No, I don’t think it’s older than sometime in the 70’s. I think the effect is intentional, and I think the maker was definitely experimenting with styles, stamp work and stamp making.
