I’ve been letting people know how well this worked on copper, brass, tough tarnish on sterling, and silverplate. I just purchased new copper cream. Not the same. They have evidently changed the formula. It does not work as well. The old one had a strong vinegar odor. Try to find some old stock.

Not exactly on topic but I sometimes use Wright’s Silver Cream on silver that is without stones. Not relevant for copper, of course, but seems fine for silver.

As I recall copper cleaners had to change ingredients because of VOC laws. They work differently I’ve noticed, and I think you have to be careful using the new stuff on antique copper items. I have a tin of the old stuff, and it’s pretty whiffy in comparison.

I have been known to use toothpaste in place of silver polish. Just the cheap stuff like Aim or Pepsodent.
It works great on both jewelry and silver serving pieces. Then I give a final shine with a treated polishing cloth

The old version we used in proprietary conservation practices. I now have to find old stock or reverse engineer it which is not an issue, just a pain.
You have to be a wealthy corporate elite to think people will not notice when you make a secret significant change in a product.

I recently encountered this problem with paint stripper.
It had been a few years since I needed some. So I bought a new can at True Value. It’s just not the same. The old oil based paint would not budge.
Usually, paint stripper burns when you get it on your skin. But not this new one. And no overpowering fumes, either. I knew it was not the same product I was used to using. I was very disappointed.
I guess the manufacturers don’t trust homeowners with this type of product anymore, so they made it safe but ineffective.

We saw that during my last days in oil & gas around 2011. Companies started what I termed “safety stupid”. Common sense is so rare anymore it should be classified as a super power.
