We often mention on here that the Amerindian site has some errors, so I know most of you use it with caution. I guess I’m addressing this more to new members. A while ago I noticed that they have Dawn Lucas listed with a “?” (maybe that has something to do with the misattribution of so much stuff to her online) when I know that she is Hopi. I bought one of her rings at the Eiteljorg Museum, and she is in my Hopi silversmithing book. I emailed them about this, but never heard back.
Then today when I was seeing if I could find Patina’s hallmark, I saw that they had this about Hallie Honanie’s mark.
Well, I have a cuff by her that has that mark. And I’m sure the small cuff is hers because I bought it from a very nice little gallery owned by Hopis on the Hopi reservation, and the receipt has her name on it. I shopped there a couple decades ago since it was written up in my Four Corners guide book.
It’s possible the site was confused because the hallmark does look slightly different in the Hopi hallmark book. However, just a word of caution that the site is not 100% correct, although it’s definitely a good starting point.
