I don’t think this is necessarily marker on your stone @Bluegreen. Most Chinese turquoise is quite a bit harder than say sleeping beauty which can be relatively soft, more porous, and less resistant. It really looks like whatever dye was used on the rough turquoise samples you’ve posted above.
Thanks for the input. I am going to look at some of them closer.
They were represented as natural and stabalized Kingman from the 1980’s and 90’s.
Seller said they were considered seconds for quality.
I will also try the acetone test on some of the black marks.
Good plan. In this case, I don’t think it will affect the underlying stone due to the resins. Found an example of some reconstituted stone for you on Etsy. This example is really well done, and would be hard to detect one the piece has been cabbed.
To be clear, I don’t think there is any question that what you have is Turquoise, but I do believe some of it is processed from fragments.
This was the only stone I was referring to. Maybe a Stabilo OHPen permanent marker was used and bled into the stone. Still think it’s a marker.
