Vintage mall eye candy

I snuck away from work to walk through a favorite vintage mall.
They have amazing things. I took a few pictures of things I was considering.
Kevin Yazzie cuff. To die for, but way too big for me!

Hopi bear cuff. I don’t recognize the arrow mark, maybe someone here does!

Cordell Pajarito butterfly ring with opal

And these two cuffs took my breath away.
The Jennifer Curtis one was fabulous!!!

I want it ALL. I would be so completely and totally broke if I lived in Albuquerque.

I almost bought one of his rings like that at Cameron Trading Post last spring! When I get home I’ll look at my Hopi book for the bear cuff hallmark, if somebody else hasn’t found it.

Beautiful pieces! I’m partial to the Kevin Yazzie cuff, the Jennifer Curtis cuff (I recognized it as hers right away), and the Cordell Pajarito butterfly ring. I wish I could just slip away from work and go NA jewelry shopping!

Holy moly! What a great selection in one place! I’m not sure we will visit Albuquerque in the spring. If we do I will ask for guidance on NA jewelry shopping.

I need to hit these places more frequently.
The problem is, I’d be spending $$$ every time!
I really had to restrain myself today.

And there was so much more. I couldn’t take pictures of everything!
It’s a really nice place to shop.

I love the first and the two last ones.

I will be in NM and ABQ at around mid May, and would really love shopping tips.

@Stracci I sure enjoyed this stroll with you through the antiques mall! Ooh, that Yazzie cuff ~ my favorite. Would’ve been hard walking away without, at least, buying that butterfly ring….

One place I would highly recommend you visit is Cowboys and Indian Antiques on Central Ave. It feels like a little museum, and it’s chock full of amazing antique/vintage jewelry and other things. There’s lots more places, but that one is just plain fun. I also enjoyed Tanner Chaney in Old Town and Palms Trading Post on Lomas Blvd. With the plethora of fake stuff out there those are three that are legit good stores. But I’m sure the Albuquerqueans on this site will have even more good recommendations!

I love that city…

@here4turquoise @gt75
This place is called Vintage Vault @Nob Hill.

Other good places that I have personally been to in Albuquerque:
Palms Trading, Cowboys and Indians(as Ziacat recommended)
Gertrude Zachary on Lomas Blvd.
Anteeks on Menaul Blvd.
Doc Holidays Pawn Shop on Juan Tabo
Indian Pueblo Cultural Center has a great jewelry shop
Old Town has a host of NA jewelry stores
There are so many other places. When I think of them, I will list more in this thread.

Thanks for these recommendations. I’m not sure how soon I’ll get back, hopefully within the next couple years, and it’d be fun to try some new places, especially since so many of my favorites have closed.

Wow, how great. Thanks a ton, @Ziacat and @Stracci .
Have bookmarked all of them and let’s see how many I can cover.

@gt75, since you will be doing so much and going to so many stores, I have a little advice for you. Maybe think ahead of what your goals are shopping wise, otherwise I think you might be overwhelmed. For me they are…

  1. I have to love it
  2. I have to be able to wear it
  3. I can afford it.

Mind you, I have broken my rules, especially in ring purchases - I occasionally have gotten something a little big and had it resized - but at least they give me a guide. Having those rules has also helped me when I can’t decide between items. For example the last time I was at C and I Antiques I couldn’t decide between cuffs. One was definitely a little better made, but in the end I bought the one I loved even though it wasn’t as high quality, and I’m glad that I did so. Occasionally I have bought items that I didn’t totally love, and regretted the decision every time.

Another thing that helps me, is to have a vague list in my mind of what I I’m looking for, although I don’t always follow that 100% either. Last spring when we traveled out west I had in mind that I wanted to get a really big ring with a large stone, and a large Hopi cuff. I found the ring, but changed my mind on the cuff, because I found something else that I loved (which may be one of my favorite purchases ever, so rules were made to be broken ).

Good luck, and happy hunting!

@Ziacat thanks a lot, yes, those are valuable guardrails.

  1. Love is highest priority
  2. 2-3 belt buckles (old and new) and 1-2 rings in my size, possibly a modular sterling cell phone case
  3. Bear claw buckle $1200 at the max, others let’s see

You are going to have so much fun looking, shopping, and touring!

I totally agree with the recommendations by @Ziacat and @Stracci. If you’ll be in Old Town ABQ and need lodging, I’d recommend Casas de Suenos. Southwest adobe casitas, a nice breakfast and only a couple blocks from the plaza where there there is great shopping.

And be sure to eat at the Church Street Cafe (in Old Town behind the beautiful old church); in my opinion, absolutely the Best!

Enjoy your visit!

I still highly recommend El Vado for ABQ lodging  but then I’m a sucker for restored Route 66 motels. And they have good beer…

I tried to make reservations there before Indian Market last year, but they were booked. That’s when we found Casas de Suenos. We stayed there a long time ago, but recently they remodeled and now offer breakfast! We were happy it was so close to the Plaza and offered individual casitas…and I always love the adobe architecture!
That might be a good topic at some point; lodging and dining in the Southwest😄 It’s great to have options!
