I got this lovely vintage necklace on auction. I don’t know much about it but when it was shipped to me it came with these little papers. Neither of these shops exist anymore. The necklace has no hallmarks or stamps of any kind. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?
Beautiful necklace and really cool paperwork to go along with it! The Rocking Horse Ranch was a famous shop that employed NA artists, many who were or went on to become famous in their own right. They were especially known for their concho belts.
I did a little bit more digging after seeing your reply @OrbitOrange and found a few more pieces from Rocking Horse Ranch. The only thing that gives me pause is that this piece has not marks. A few pieces from RHR have hallmarks.
Yes, I’ll clarify that I don’t necessarily think this necklace was made at Rocking Horse Ranch. I have never known them to make cluster jewelry. That being said, I’m not an expert on Rocking Horse Ranch. It seems very possible that these paper items might just be something the former owner of the necklace had with their collection. Still very cool, nonetheless. What exactly is the paper that says “the story of Rocking Horse Ranch”? It looks like it may be a little pamphlet?
@OrbitOrange this forum is so knowledgeable. Everyone has been super helpful and friendly. The pamphlet tells the history and significance of turquoise. I wish I would have taken more photos as I’m traveling now and left that at home. I’m almost sure that this piece might be Zuni just from researching a bit but I could be wrong. I’m by no means knowledgeable on Native American jewelry. I did take more photos of the necklace earlier today
