What is this purple color stone? Does this look authentic?

Once again trying to gain more knowledge. What would this purple stone be? Sugilite?

To me it looks like a super dark spiny oyster. But I am no expert. It might help if the photo was in the sun. It’s a bit dark to tell.

This is one of my darker spiny oyster rings.

Thank you, yes it could be that.

@Red5 Hi ~ I’m not sure what the stone is in your necklace(?). Though, when I see purple stones I tend to think: Sugilite, Charoite, Purple Spiny Oyster shell, or Wampum shell.

From that photo, it looks like sugilite but, the photo is not a good one and it’s hard to tell. Can you please post a photo in bright daylight so that I can see it better?

I had to look up wampum shell. Never heard of it till now.

Agree that better pics in natural light would help.

@Red5 In these pics the stones appear more brownish and less toward the blue on the purple spectrum to be sugilite, and any depth to the shade is obscured.

I think purple spiny oyster. Sugilite is often more violet, charoite more “royal purple”, and wampum is usually banded with white.

I’m going to ask for more pictures in sunlight. Thank you all for chiming in!

That is a pretty combination, nice deep purple with turquoise.
