What kind of stone is this

I always assumed these earrings were made with was moss agate. Then I saw a similar stone on this forum that was identified as some form of turquoise. Can anyone tell me if this is turquoise or if my assumption of moss agate was correct?

No they are not translucent at all. Also I forgot to mention that the earrings are about 30ish years old. They have a little carving on them and as you can see are bison shaped

Ahh you might have hit that nail on the head! Would their weight make any difference? (4.09g) They definitely have a glossy opaque surface.

Included a penny for size perspective

I take it back Fernwood. Looks like there is some translucence especially in one of them. Hard to see in the picture but easy to see irl

Opaque moss agate is a type of chalcedony quartz. @Steve got it. It can be milky white with the oxidized iron or manganese inclusions. It can be argued that moss agate is not a true agate since it lacks the concentric banding. However…

I concur. Agate it is. A girl can dream, but in this case the dream was crushed  JK. I Got them at a powwow decades ago and I still love them!
