JJ
There are a bunch of JJ hallmarks, but none that look like this one; the one on the left is most similar, but the style of letter still looks different.
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “real.” Do you mean Native made? Real turquoise? Looks like real turquoise, but I’m not sure if Native made unless we can find a match to the hallmark. Could you give us any information about it? Like where you got it? Sometimes that matters in case you bought it from a really good store. eBay and Etsy sites are often wrong in attributions. Any information you can give us is helpful.
I agree with Zia. “Whatcha think, real? Origin?” doesn’t give anyone much to go on or what you’re specifically asking for.
Sorry I’m very out of touch with the realm of jewelry, too clarify i mean, does the turqoise look real. Online i read that there are knock offs. I got it from a friend who got it from his dad. Not from the internet. I loved in new Mexico so i think the gift was so i could wear it. I do see light inscription that says 105- but it’s very hard to make out. Could be 10S or something else completely. Also by real i mean silver or pewter. I’ve hung into this for many years but recent divorce got me thinking what is this really worth.
In the first photo I almost thought it was copper, but I think that’s just the poor lighting in your photo. I think it most likely is sterling silver but this is easy to test for, have you tested? The stones look like probably stabilized turquoise to me from these photos. Agree with Zia; without attributing it to a known maker we can’t say that it’s Native made.
ETA: the lightly scratched inscription is probably an owner’s mark or seller’s code, unrelated to the maker.
When we say stabilized turquoise, we don’t mean it’s not real. It just means it’s been treated so that it will be harder. Natural turquoise is much more rare and more expensive. There’s nothing wrong with stabilized turquoise; it’s just that most turquoise comes out of the ground less hard, and it is often treated so that it will keep its color and not crumble.
