Hi all,
we will be passing through Zuni in June, and I’d love to get some suggestions on good shopping spots We went to the Zuni craftsman co-op last time, and found a keeper, the inventory was smallish. Anyone have favorites?
thanks!

I haven’t spent any time shopping in Zuni, although I’ve driven through it several times. So I pulled out my trusty Trading Post Guidebook of the Four Corners region, and these are some of the ones they have listed. A number of places in this book have closed, so you might want to Google these shops before you try to find them. It’s an excellent book, and has always been my ultimate travel guide for shopping for Native American art.
Running Bear - Zuni Trading Post, owner Jerry Elkins 505-782-5505
The Old Pueblo a trading Post, owner Chet Jones - 505-782-2296
Pueblo of Zuni Arts and Crafts, owner Zuni tribe 505-782-5531 (the guidebook mentioned that this place uses no reconstituted or stabilized material, and it has things that are not available elsewhere)
Turquoise Village, owner Greg Hoffman 505-782-5521 (this store had a huge write-up and carries a lot of artists)
Zuni Craftsmen Cooperative, owners member Zuni craftsmen 505-782-4521 jewelry department has a different # 505-782-4605
Again, my guidebook is from the '90s, so there are probably a lot of changes, and the phone numbers might not be correct. And maybe some forum members have been to some of these places. I haven’t actually, although I did call Turquoise Village once to get some information on a piece I had.
Good luck, and hopefully you’ll get some more info!
Thanks so much! Definitely gives me a good starting place! Some are gone/ changed, as you guessed, but others are going on my list. Just a couple days on the end of a TX family trip, but plan to hit some highlights
Hi @tepowell! Years ago I’d have had some good recommendations for you. But last time I was there (10+ years ago), things had changed. The cooperative was great 20-30 years ago, but the last time I was there it was minimal.
FYI, on the road from Gallop to Zuni (602) there are a couple well known Trading Posts that may or may not be of interest. Perry Null is just off 602 in Gallop. Also Joe Milo’s is a bit further as you’re going south on 602. Winfield Trading, a bit further south on 602, was a great place to shop. Again I’m not sure it’s still open, last time we went by it was closed. These are all on your way from Gallop to Zuni.
Have fun!
Thank you, @Bmpdvm! Definitely going to Perry Null, will check out the others. (I had typed my response to @Ziacat a while back and just realized I neglected to hit “send”!)
Keep us updated if you find any special ones in Zuni! I knew some of those would be closed, but I didn’t have time to look them all up. That’s what’s so sad about my Trading Post guide book. I would guess about half of them have closed since I bought it But it it’s been so helpful in helping me find really good legit stores.
