Where to shop Santa Fe & ABQ?

I bought a cuff there that I love, that I someday will post, because I have some questions about the stones. The first time I went I didn’t buy anything, so I was excited that I got to get back a few years ago. Thanks for sharing your lovely cuff!

Heading that way myself in a couple weeks- thanks for all the great tips! Taking some pottery for consignment at Andrea Fisher, will have a bit of time that day in SF, and a couple days in ABQ. Plan to visit Perry Null and Palms for sure, Keshi in SF, and see what else we can squeeze in with the time we have

Headed this way myself later this year for the first time in decades – curious if anyone has any additional recommendations for the immediate Santa Fe + Taos area or drive up into Colorado.

For what it’s worth, I’m relatively young and will be browsing with family in tow, so we’ll probably be looking for smaller, casual pieces. I’m thinking “nice souvenir or holiday gift” territory, not “museum worthy serious collector white whale” territory – Shiprock (at least based on their online gallery) e.g. looks a bit serious for this trip.

Also, I’d prioritize places that are native owned or have ongoing mutually beneficial working relationships with contemporary native jewelers (like a Garland’s or a Perry Null) where my indigenous spouse can have a good time browsing too. I’m not looking to take them to an antique shop that’s just gonna feel death-haunted or get stuck talking to a proprietor with a raging Dances With Wolves complex, you know?

I think @Stracci who lives in New Mexico can give you some good advice. Off the top of my head I would highly suggest the portal at the Palace of the Governor’s building in Santa Fe. The artists sell directly there. You can find things at all price ranges, and it might be really interesting for your kids.

Oh this looks like a perfect spot to go browse – like a mini-SWAIA. Thank you!

You are very welcome, and have fun! But it’s a rule that you have to let us see your purchases

Seriously, I hope you have a great time, and find some wonderful stuff.

I got a couple genuinely great deals at Tanner Chaney

I bought a lovely cuff there years ago, and the owner prob spent an hour or so chatting with us. However that is in ABQ, and she was asking about Santa Fe.

Sorry I thought it was both.

I see, you are correct - the whole thread was about both. I thought you were responding to the most recent poster from a couple days ago who just asked about Santa Fe. I thought it might confuse her.

Walking around Santa Fe plaza is usually what we do in Santa Fe, but we don’t have kids with us, so it might be boring for them.

The Santa Fe Railyard area has some good casual shopping

Unfortunately I completely forgot and failed to take photos :person_facepalming: but this ended up being a highlight of the trip – each person ended up finding a simple cuff bracelet that called their name. What a great memory. Thank you all for the suggestions!

Oh, that’s good to hear! So glad you enjoyed it. I’m a cuff gal, so I’m happy you each found one. Hubby and I are heading to AZ this summer, and most likely will spend half our trip over in NM, but prob won’t make it to Santa Fe.

We here would love seeing a pic of your cuff

Hi There..I had forgotten you were a Tucson gal! So, as I typically do, I’d like to change the subject to include Tucson. I haven’t been to Tucson for years, but we’re traveling by car to Texas in acouple weeks and will spend a day in Tucson. Other than Medicine Man, a must, do you have any other suggestions.
In addition, does anyone know anything about El Paso? It’s my husband’s trip, but I’m fortunate he supports my passion. Hope to make the long trip more tolerable by checking out some new galleries, shops, trading posts along the way:grin:.

In Tucson, I purchased my Nestoria Coriz from Mac’s Indian Jewelry, 2400 E Grant Rd. Open Tues - Friday, 10 - 5.

We also shopped in American Antique Mall, 3130 E Grant Rd. Open Tues - Fri 10 - 4, Sat 10 - 5.

There were several others in addition to Medicine Man, but we didn’t have enough time.

We had dinner at the Mexican restaurant in the same parking lot as Medicine Man and highly recommend it.

@here4turquoise Thanks for the recommendations. It’s my heart’s desire to one day attend the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. I’ve always wanted to take a vacation trip to Tucson but, it just hasn’t happened yet.

We’re hoping to do Colorado and New Mexico next year. I’m already planning the places I want to go!

I’m having the exact opposite problem. With going to AZ and (probably ) NM in late July after the Eiteljorg Market in late June, I’m having to narrow down the places to visit  To go to every shop that I am interested in would require an unending supply of $ and time, neither of which I have

We have only been to Tucson twice in all the years we’ve gone out there, because it’s usually so hot that we end up going north. We possibly might go in late winter/ early spring next year, so maybe we’ll get to Tucson again. If so, I will follow your recommendations!

Thanks @here4turquoise! We’ll plan to have dinner at the Mexican resteraunt after we leave Medicine Man. Thanks for the other options, we’ll likely snoop around other places before Medicine Man Gallery & Museum (we love Maynard Dixon!!!). Last time we were there we visited Medicine Man, but spent most of the day at High Desert Museum (Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum) which was wonderful!
And @Patina…the Gem and Mineral show is also on my “to do” list:wink:.

There is also a museum, turquoise mine & trading post in Los Cerrillos, about 20 miles south of Santa Fe. They seem to offer mine tours too.
(Haven’t been there, but sure would love to visit some day)
