Hi folks, for those who’ve done Whitehawk and opted to get in early, on opening night: Trying to decide which early admission ticket to buy, which also includes the whole weekend. I’m not springing for the very earliest–very expensive. But considering one of the other tiers of early admission.
So: I’m debating between 5 pm admission or 7 pm. There’s a $50 difference in cost between these levels. The upside is schmoozing with dealers and guests, marginal snacks and a drink, but also access to browse and shop before the show officially starts. These tix are fundraisers benefiting two worthy organizations, unlike the regular admission ones.
@chicfarmer I’ve never attended the Whitehawk Show so I can’t offer any assistance. I do have a question, if you don’t mind. So you’re trying to choose between 5pm or 7pm admission on opening night. What time does the opening night event end? (For me, that would also play into my decision.)
@Patina Great question, P. It does make a difference! It’s til 9 PM for either time slot, hence shorter overall for the later admission. Then the show starts up again next day 10 AM for several days.
You mentioned some terrific upsides to attending this Show’s opening night. Can you leisurely enjoy yourself and also browse/purchase in 2 hours? If you want the most out of opening night, I say go for the gusto and purchase the 5pm ticket. (Disclosure: if the cost of the 5pm level ticket is $50 higher, I’d consider that negligible, all things considered.)
What the heck chic, splurge for the earlier one. What’s another $50, right? I do always find that the opening night goes fast and I never feel like I have enough time to get to all the dealers. I don’t remember there being all these different tiers before, though, I wonder if this is new.

I Chic! I haven’t been to this particular show, but in the past I attended the Art of the Americas (antique Native American & ethnographic, etc) in Marin Ca. We always went to the opening night gala on Friday then stayed the weekend. We’d stay at a hotel next to the convention center; all the dealers also stayed there; some would open their rooms and display, sell from their rooms. We got to know so many dealers year after year… Those were the good ol’ days! Over the years the show did get smaller with fewer exhibitors, but went to a virtual show during COVID, and sadly has not recovered. What this is leading to is, YES…go early to the opening evening. I’m sure with all the dealers you know, you’ll have a ball. And…share the experience!
I’m kind of inadvertently getting excited for August in Santa Fe even though I’m not even going this year. I think I’m just programmed to get psyched, I love it so much. Hope to hear all about it and live vicariously through you and others that go!
Me too! One of these years I’m going to plan ahead and spend acouple weeks in Santa Fe, so I can do both the Whitehawk and SWAIA (in my dreams). Anyone want to join me.
Another thought, many years ago my husband and I were in Phoenix for another reason and I went to a large, wonderful Whitehawk type Native American art show in Mesa Az. Most of the dealers I knew from the Marin shows were there. Strangely I’m not sure who put it on, it likely was Kim Martingale who put on the Marin Art of the Americas show (and several others). I believe he is currently with the Whitehawk show. Does anyone remember this show?
I’m (hopefully) going to both Whitehawk and SWAIA next year—come join me for part or all of it! I tend to go every other year and stay longer to take it all in.
I feel like the other show you’re talking about might be Brian Lebel’s Old West Show and auction? It used to be in Mesa and just moved to Las Vegas within the past few years.
Yep, that’s it! Thank you! I definitely recognize the name now! I hadn’t planned on going to this show, but saw it advertised and thought well heck, we’re here; it must be Karma that there’s a NA art show. It was a great show; reminded me of the old Marin Art of the Americans show.
It surprised me that someone else would be going to both shows, but I’m glad! It would definitely be to great to get together with you! We’ll have to see what life deals us, but here’s hoping! I’ll definitely post some pictures of all the goings on in Santa Fe for the 5 days we’re there this year…I’m getting anxious
I looked up Brian Lebel’s Old West Show, and interestingly, it looks like they have an Old West and Native American Art Show and Sale in both Vegas (in January) and Mesa (in May). Looks like 10+ years ago Brian purchased the High Noon Show & Auction in Mesa, thus the name change.
