I’m calling it this morning. A new milestone, and one I’m honestly a bit shocked happened this quickly. Silver is within pennies of $100 per Troy Ounce and likely to exceed that within hours.
it’s there. Gold at $4980. 9:50am CST
It has surpassed $100 in the meantime. Crazy work. And i like to believe that it will go quite a bit higher.
I am also interested in what the gold silver ratio will do this year.
The image below might be just a meme, but imagine if it would really revert back to 1:15. Or even beyond that, with all the electronic vehicles, solar panels, AI datacenters, weapons, etc. that need silver nowadays.
(I believe we are at 1:50 at the moment)
Yeah, some folks are predicting 300.00 by the end of the year. Gold prices are insane.
I am so very angry about this. I blame world events and other “stuff” for this economic mess.
There goes my little hobby, it will soon be unaffordable for me to make my trinkets for fun here at home.
And forget about the occasional antique gold jewelry purchase from the vintage mall.
I guess I’ll just hole up, look at my current collections and remember the good times ……
Interestingly, this may be your opportunity to move into making jewelry for profit. Many will be dropping out of the market in the coming months. Heavily leveraged suppliers will disappear from the scene, and it’s in times like these when new opportunities arise as retailers look for new styles and emerging artists.
I think metals are going up due to lack of trust in fiat currencies and with regards to silver..there is much more demand than supply since it is used in EV’s, robotics, space, solar panels, chips, etc. Plus it was being artificially held down for so long. Yes..I am saddened that many smaller tier silversmiths might be priced out. I can’t believe it was only in October we had our silver thread declaring it hit $50. Insane.
I need someone to reassure me and tell me it’s gonna be OK. Because I have some nice turquoise on my bench and I want to use it, but I’m scared of depleting my stash.
That last red coral ring was made with 75% scrap. I’ve been hoarding silver trimmings.
I’m looking at retirement in a few years, and maybe then I’ll make jewelry for profit.
For the last 20 years, I’ve been cruising along, happily creating for my own personal collection.
It’ll be OK. No matter what silver goes to, you’re at the top of the food chain with regard to producing handmade jewelry at the lowest cost. One again. You may find that new opportunities arise and your skills are increasingly respected by those around you. Silver is the new gold.
No matter what the “experts” say, I think there is too much scrap silver hitting the market. COMEX facilitates the exchange of physical silver (1,000 oz bars) between buyers and sellers, holding registered inventories to settle contracts. Evidently there are not enough buyers out there. That may be why most refiners have stopped taking silver other than.999. And those that still do take it are down to offering 70% of melt. I also think China’s decision to control silver has a part in it, not to mention the global
show.
It is all very disappointing, but things change. I feel frustrated when I see all the beautiful farmland here getting gobbled up, but it is what it is. However, don’t get me started on the giant Google plant that has just gone in not far from us. But I’m old school; I’m still dealing with being annoyed that the next car I get won’t have a CD player in it ![]()
But, @Stracci, I can imagine this is rather heartbreaking for you.
The main thing this thread made me do is call and order the cuff I’ve been looking at since it hasn’t gone up in price since last year.
I think you will be fine. Even at current silver prices you could not purchase items like you make for the actual metal cost you have into it.
Yes, I know of one NA artist who just dropped out and is currently in school for a new trade ![]()
And I trust you will show us right away, won’t you? Cause I need to see something pretty to lighten my mood!
Thanks, Mike. I needed to hear something positive. I guess silver is still worlds away from gold.
“Silver is the new gold"…I was in a consignment shop looking at NA jewelry, and I said exactly that to the sales lady who had no idea what I was talking about. I had to explain the situation to her ![]()
Are you saying that you think it will go down in the future?
This makes me so sad
Thanks for the encouragement, Steve
You and me both. Truly.
