This is a crazy market. I feel the stock market and metals are overvalued. I seem to be in good company with some of the big financial kahounas I’ve read about.

But a prediction? I’m not smart enough to predict the future. I do know in the past silver takes the biggest adjustment hit.

Not for a while yet. They held it for me till I called back, and I called today. The owner was in a meeting so I haven’t officially ordered it. Then it has to get here from Utah.

It will all be fine, no doubt, @Stracci.

You are a consummate silversmith, artist, and craftswoman. You see the potential beauty in a pile of scrap and random stones. Talent is nothing more than a pursued interest, and you’ve pursued the art of crafting silver to the point of being gifted. You’re fortunate that your hands are capable extensions of your mind, and that, @Stracci, is a blessing always. :+1:

Thank you @Ravenscry, for your wise comments.

I have a bad habit of looking at the glass as half empty. I will reflect on your words and get back to the bench, and start creating something worthwhile.

You’re welcome, @Stracci, I’m happy to have (potentially) helped.

Now this is more like it, and something I can easily look forward to! :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

You would have a long list of customers. I might even know someone that would trade silver.

I’ve commissioned a silver cuff bracelet from a local First Nations carver who has a fairly long waiting list. He quoted me a price in December and I agreed to it, but that was before the last jumps in the value of silver. I’m wondering if I should offer to pay more to offset what might end up being a loss for him.

I’ll be the devils advocate here when speaking about “loss” and throw it out for debate.

For example, if a bracelet sells for $1500 and uses two ounces of silver, the silversmith’s cost only rose by about $100. More cost of good sold, but not even close to a loss.

I would say do what you feel is right, but he may very well have bought the silver before it went up in price. And I would think by December he surely was aware that prices were going up.

Now since you mentioned it you’ll have to show it to us after you get it  It’s an unwritten rule you know

@Stracci Oh, please add my name to the new customer list.:slightly_smiling_face: I have a photo of a pair of earrings I’d like to commission. Plus, a ring or two :slightly_smiling_face:.

To make you laugh a little, when I read your comment I thought you said that you look at a wine glass as half empty :joy: Maybe we all are looking at a half empty wine glass (or an IPA mug if you’re me) after watching the price of silver skyrocket!

I wish here was a care button here.
Yes, no CD players in cars. But I can plug in my CD player via USB port and have it play.
I am glad I orderd some Sterling pieces from Thunderbird last year. Glad I still hve many of the 1980’s sterling jewelry findings I bouight from Thunderbird. I am going to invdest in some more silver soldering equipmnt. I might not be able to afford buying any silver and turquoise jewwelry, but I have enough supplies and knowledge to make my own.

I am glad that my daughter told me to purchase my 39 acrers before I knew there was10 acre minimum lot size for new development. I trusted her judgment and put in an offer sight unseen. That was confirmed when I visited the proeprty. My investment in this land has more than doubled in 10 years.

Yikes!! Now I’m doubly glad I went ahead and ordered my cuff at it’s original price.

The info I’m getting (3rd generation family business) is that silver hasn’t reached the top $ yet. Not enough production to meet the needs of industrial users. Refiners of scrap silver (sterling, 800 fine, 900 fine) are backed up for months and can no longer guarantee what the price will be in the 8 weeks or more that it may take to refine silver scrap. This is unusually long, but it’s because of the overload of folks selling their silver and taking their profit. Instead of money, refiners may begin to offer product such as casting grain or silver bars. Most will no longer accept scrap lots for refining until the backlog thins out some. Gold is still being refined/recycled but the time frame has moved out a little.

Jeez…the prices are moving up so fast my Sterling I have on eBay has become a bargain. Either a FOMO buyer or reseller just bought six Sterling items (I keep most of my NA jewelry for myself). I think we take a breather here and correct a bit before moving up. The miners are not keeping up.

Add on….i think it was a jeweler that bought them…probably gonna jack up the price and resell. Grrrr
