I enjoy watching horses do their thing too. Enjoy.
Oh. My. Gosh. This is a cuff the above eBay seller has which is very similar to mine listed at…
Yes more than DOUBLE the price. I would never buy anything from this seller. I get it that when you resell you have to raise the price to cover your original cost, but seriously??!! And I know that’s just a price he throws out there to see if it’ll stick, but still.
I buy from the artist when I can. I’d like the money to go directly into the maker’s pocket.
Of course, that’s not always possible.
I think Zia is right, they just pick a high price and hope for the best!
I totally agree; it is not always possible. I’ve purchased most of my jewelry from stores except when I can get to the Eiteljorg Market. But these prices are ridiculous. For example, Perry Null has a Robert Johnson cuff (which is much heavier with more turquoise than mine) at a much more reasonable price very similar to some of the ones that are a couple thousand bucks on this person’s site.
Absolutely ridiculous. I would not buy from this seller either.
I would prefer to buy directly from the artist as well but living in Virginia there are not many in person opportunities.
He is probably pricing based on those high priced NA shops out west plus eBay gobbles up 18% and possibly an authentication fee.
Well, he’s pricing way higher than many of the “high priced” shops out west; I have bought similar stuff out west not nearly as high, and that’s why I mentioned that Perry Null has almost the same Robert Johnson cuff for like half the price of what this person is aiming for. I just think he’s throwing it out there to see what will stick. And those shops have overhead for their buildings, staff, everything else. Way more than the 18% that what he has to pay.
Sorry if I sound annoyed (I’m not really), it’s just that my family had a small business, and we got frustrated with everybody thinking we made piles of money because we owned a business. So I kinda sympathize with those shops at west.
We’ve had this discussion already @Ziacat and I am in agreement with you having been in retail (not annoyed at all). It was just a statement of fact, not a shot against the shops. But sellers are more inclined to base their asking price on the highest asking price they can find. Naturally that comes from physical shops with overhead. If they based it on realized auction prices I think we would see more realistic online pricing from those that have limited overhead.
Ebay shows several Robert Johnson cuffs have sold for less than half this price over the last few months, FYI
Can you update us on the final price of the bridle when it sells? I don’t know much about bidding on eBay, but I think someone on here once said that sometimes sellers are guilty of making a bid themselves to make it go higher. Am I right on this, and could that be what he’s done? I really have no clue.
I’ll try to keep an eye on it I see it isn’t an auction, so the seller could keep it up there indefinitely! all my items are “buy now”, I don’t have time to deal with auctions. I am clearing collectables from 4 households, in my spare time…
I would not be at all surprised if shills help drive auction prices. I’ve seen some things sell at ridiculously low prices, no reserve I guess.
I will be more than happy to post it. If the seller accepts an offer, we won’t see the selling price.
Thanks to both of you! Too bad we can’t see the price, but I am still curious to see how quickly it sells. Still can’t believe I didn’t even see it at his booth
Maybe you had cuffs on the brain.
Hahahah…always 20 characters…
@Ziacat
I was at a local upscale antique mall today, and i saw a bunch of Robert Johnson pieces!
The prices were not displayed.
Looks like your cuff and my earrings!
That’s too cool! Thanks for sharing the pic. I also love the necklace. And is that a squash by him in the back ground of the first picture?
And what about that purple award ribbon on the right of the second picture, do you know what that was with? I think that says Eiteljorg.
So, I am curious. Do I see the horse headstall/bridle and prize ribbon in the second pic? Wondering if this is the same person selling Robert Johnson items at two times his selling price on ebay.
I think you might be onto something. I can’t imagine there would be two ribbons; he could have made two of the bridles, but the ribbon?
What a gorgeous squash blossom!
