There is a good chance of seeing lights in the sky tonight in Northern States.
I recently changed my set up for night photos and was doing some test shots earlier tonight.
It was mostly cloudy at the time. I looked to the East and saw someone watching me, lol.
Liteerally, the man in the moon.
Beautiful! There was a chance of them when we were in Ludington last week, but we never saw any.
Pretty. I think the moon and city light are too bright for me to see anything. I will try tomorrow. Your moon looks like a monster.
Thank you for showing your pics. It’s misty and overcast in WV.
Thanks so much @fernwood. Sometime in my lifetime I’d love to see these.
Ohhh so pertty. Yes, thanks for sharing!
Nothing here, but I don’t know that they were going to be seen as far south as IN. We’re still about 45 minutes south of the MI border.
Someone west of me posted some tonight. I didn’t see them either.
I am fighting a nasty bug and was very tired.
Was able to get some photos of the start of them.
These were taken between 8:15 and 9 PM.
Many people in Wisconsin were seeing SAR Arcs.
Just before going to bed I noticed the lights were begining to intensify. The rose colored areas were not the pillars I am used to, but cloud like blobs.
What my Iphone 10 captured.
After minor enhancement.
I am seeing so many beautiful photos taken by people who live near me. Wish I could have stayed up a little longer.
Thank you for the pics. I hope you’re feeling better soon.
For those interested, here is a great explanation of the SAR arch. It and the photo are from the Admin of the Northern Lights of Wisconsin Admiin, Carmen.
Photo was taken just North of Sheboygan, WI, in Cleveland.
For the first time in my life, I was able to capture the SAR arch, something even more elusive than the Northern Lights:bangbang:
(It’s the huge red band on the right side of the photo)
I see that lots of people were able to capture it so I wanted to share with everyone so they knew what they captured.
SAR arch looks like Aurora but they are not the same.
Auroras appear when charged particles rain down from space, hitting the atmosphere and causing it to glow like the picture tube of an old color TV. SARs form differently. They are a sign of heat energy leaking into the upper atmosphere from Earth’s ring.
So there you have it, we got to experience the all mighty SAR arch last night
Amazing! Thanks for the photos and the description. I don’t think they came this far south, plus we still have a fair amount of city light around us, so I don’t know that I could have seen them anyway.
These were taken by a neighbor a couple miles from me.
Now I feel bad for not staying up 20 minutes later.
He said they were unenhanced and could easily be seen with just eyes.
Absolutely stunning photos. Thank you for sharing them with the forum peeps.
They are back tonight. I was working during the first good wave, but caught the tail end. Another is supposed to come around 2 AM. Dunno if I will be awake then.
Here are a few from between 9:30 and 10.
But this has to be my best photo from tonight.
Ever since my barn was painted with a huge mural of the Seven Sisters, I have wanted to get a photo of Pleiades above my barn. The conditions were perfect tonight.
I took 3 photos, with my Iphone 10. One of them had a shooting star just below The Seven Sisters.
Wow! I am truly blessed.
I can’t remember if I shared a photo of the mural on my barn here. It was painted in 2021 by Native American Artist, Christopher Sweet. His Aunt, Denise Sweet is a former Wisconsin Poet Lauret. She wrote a very moving poem/prose to accompany the mural. One section of it is part of the mural.
I appreciate the support everyone here has goiven me on posting Aurora photos.
I love your barn. Thank you for sharing your pic and the story behind it.
I received and aurora notification at 2:30 of high activity. Unfortunately, I was busy . Since you shared your pics, I didn’t really miss them. Thank you for posting them.
Thank you for sharing all the beautiful photos!
