FYI. Potential Auora viewing tomorrow night as far South as Central Indiana.
A lot depends on the cloud cover.
I had some fun, with a little help from others.
Just wish I could get the words clearer.
Disclaimer: No AI was used to create this merger. Just good old Photoshop Elements.
So far it’s clear here! But we still have too many lights to see much I think.
You never know. These are supposed to be at least as brilliant as the ones this past May.
Oct 10 is shaping up to be a good viewing. Hope you all can see them.
Here in SW VA i currently have a 1% chance at the moment. I feel like after dark it will be much higher.
Eyes to the skies friends.
10-10-2024. 11:15-11:45. SE Portage County, WI. Iphone 10. No enhancements other than sharpening and noise removal.
So glad I decided to stay outside to see if round 2 arrived. I was at work during round 1, but got some photos from the well lit parking lot.
Was disappointed when I got home at 10:45. Just a slight greenish and rose glow to the North. Was happy to hear that there might be a round 2.
Facing almost straight up. Slightly South.
Facing East.
Facing straight up.
Facing ENE.
I also have some photos of what I think was a SAR Arch. Took those facing mostly South.
I have over 100 photos on my phone that I need to go through. Will have to delete a lot of files on my laptop to download them.
Very nice pics. Thank you for sharing them with us. My photos are with an iPhone Pro Max using night mode and 30 second exposure. No further edits.
I saw them! However they were VERY faint, and I wasn’t even 100% sure till I looked at them through my camera phone (plain old Motorola Edge). But I didn’t even drive out away from our smallish city’s lights. I love everyone’s pics. Amazing! Love the little cow in one. @fernwood, the lights look like they were moving in yours. I noticed that years ago when I saw them in northern MI. Tonight it was more like a haze.
Although I think maybe I just noticed them because I had been drinking one of these earlier (due to the color of the can - not from the effects )
So glad you were able to see them.
You saw what they usually look like, even in Central WI South.
That looks like a good beer.
Sharing a photo I took at work. I had to take a quick break at 8 PM to see if there was any activity.
I was standing in our well lit, secondary parking lot.
I did enhance this photo by reducing noise, and exposure. Increased contrast.
I showed it to a co-worker. He had earlier told me an item on his bucket list was seeing the Northern Lights. He accomplished that last night.
Later I was tking garbage out. Him and his fiance were both working in our restaurant earlier. They were about to leave. I saw them trying to take a slefie with the Northern Lights in the background. I had them move to a little bit darker area and took the photo of them.
It turned out great.
So happy you were able to see them. Last night was not as colorful as earlier in the year in this area. It was still very moving to see them for me.
It is a great feeling to help someone check off a bucket list event. You were very kind to take their pic with the NL in the background. I’m sure you made their night.
Here are a few more of my 10-10 favorites.
At the start of the sky exploding with color. I could see the pillars shooting straight up.
Coronas. They were ever changing. I can see some objects in them.
I am still going through the photos I took that night. I was not outside for long. Some people I know took thousands of photos and videos.
Thanks for looking.
Beautiful. Could you see them like this with the naked eye, or only this much detail when you use your camera?
To me the second pic looks a bit like one of these😆
See a little with eyes. Normal eyes take about 30 minutes to adjust to dark. Mine take about an hour, lol.
Cameras capture colors right away.
Yes, the photo does look a little like popsicles.
